Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon announce split after nearly 40 years of marriage

Celebrity split-ups are becoming more common these days than make-up trends! Now, Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon announced their separation on Friday, April 29, 2022. The Emmy Award-winner and his wife of nearly 40 years confirmed their separation even though they are still legally married and maintain a "loving friendship." 

Aykroyd and Dixon, both 64, married in 1983, just a year after meeting on the set of the comedy 'Doctor Detroit'. After four-decades-long beautiful marriage, the couple released a joint statement regarding their decision. “After 39 years as a couple, we are now on separate life paths. We remain legally married, co-parents, co-workers, and business partners,” the pair told People in a joint statement. They added, “This is our choice in loving friendship.”

Aykroyd was previously engaged to the late Carrie Fisher but his love for Dixon grew so strong that they both got married. Dixon and Aykroyd have acted in several movies like 'Twilight Zone: The Movie' (1983), 'Spies Like Us' (1985), 'The Couch Trip' (1988), and 'Exit to Eden' (1989). The couple shares three kids -- Danielle 32, who is a singer-songwriter and goes by the name Vera Sola), Belle, 28, and Stella, 24.

People are pretty shocked to hear the news as Aykroyd has always publicly spoken about his love for Dixon. In a 2014 interview with The Tampa Bay Times, the 'Ghostbuster' talked about his relationship with Dixon. He said, “You gotta find the right person — look them in the eye, have them look back, and know their soul,” adding, “She’s a Southern woman who is understanding and doesn’t mind dealing with the boys from time to time.”

'People grow apart'

People have been sharing their views on the shocking news of the couple's separation. On Twitter, one person wrote, “I know of so many couples nowadays, married for 25+ years and getting divorced. Yikes.  I wonder what the Number One reason is?,” while another said, “People grow apart...doesn't mean they don't love each other, just no longer want to live with each other. 🤣.”

Another person stated, “Sad to hear Dan Aykroyd and Donna Dixon have separated. They were a great couple! They were married for 39 years.” One more said, “Oh man! They've been together a long time! That's one couple I never thought would separate 😔.”
