Crystal Gayle turns 72! Singer and grandma-of-2 credits success to late sister Loretta Lynn's advice
WABASH, INDIANA: Iconic country singer, Crystal Gayle, celebrated her 72nd birthday on January 9. The singer is famous for her song 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,' which was released in 1977. However, it is said that it was her older sister Loretta Lynn who helped her start her career.
Lynn was reportedly almost two decades older than Gayle and the latter trusted her very much. The ‘A Long and Lasting Love’ singer had once told PEOPLE, “Being in the music business is not easy but if you really love it, then it's all worth it,” before thanking her sister as she noted, “She gave me the best advice: 'Don't sing anything that I would because we're only going to be compared’. She was right.”

The ‘You Never Gave Up on Me’ singer also addressed the rivalry apparently portrayed between her and her sister by the media. She shared, “We're sisters, so, of course, we're going to have our words but it was never anything major. We'd laugh about it and go on with our careers. I am so proud and honored to be her sister.”
In October 2022, the Grammy winner singer, however, lost her sister. Paying a tribute to her, she posted a number of pictures of the legendary singer with a heartfelt caption that read, “The world lost a legend. We lost a sister. Love you Loretta❤️ @lorettalynnofficial.”
Gayle is not only known for her songs, however, but also for her elegant looks, which include her super-long brown hair. But there were times when she wanted to cut it off. According to reports, she had said that, “There's been days where I just want to take the scissors. When my children were younger, they'd say, 'Mom, you won't be Crystal Gayle when you cut your hair.' So they've been waiting for that moment.”
Besides, the mother-of-two is also a grandmother of two adorable children. Her son, Christos James Gatzimos, is the father of two sons. In 2011, she spoke of her grandchild Elijah as she reportedly said, “Elijah is sandy blond and a handsome boy. I was trying on some clothes the other day and I had on this nice outfit, and he came to the house and said, ‘Ya Ya!'(I’m called Ya Ya because my husband is Greek. He’s called Papu). Anyway, he said, ‘Ya Ya, you look so beautiful!’ He’s 5, and I can already tell he’s going to be some ladies’ man.”
She also added, “Holidays are so amazing with Elijah. We make cookies, which is great because I never really got much of a chance to do this with my own children. There’s a pull when I go on the road* when I’m not around him, and I want to be. He’s just a bright spot that you want to see all the time. He loves life.”
In 2020, Gayle became the grandmother once again and shared about it on her Instagram page. She wrote, “This is the reason I have not been on lately. I have been having fun with my new grandson, Björn Alexander Gatzimos. He is beautiful❤️💙 and everyone is doing great. #newborn #yaya #baby #babyboy.”
