Joaquin Phoenix's career is at an all-time high after the glowing success of the controversial 'Joker', which spawned endless debates and dinner-time discussions. The actor has received high praise for his performance as the notorious DC villain, and one award after another. After his Golden Globe win, the actor won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor as well.

Director Todd Phillips' 'Joker' explored the mental breakdown of loner Arthur Fleck, a clown who has been struggling to make ends meet and pushed to the periphery of society. It showed his devolvement into the sinister villain he is known as today.

Fans were excited and are convinced that he is on his way to win the Oscars.

"He's coming for the @BAFTA and @TheAcademy awards next!! #JoaquinPhoenix," one fan wrote.

Another tweeted, "#JoaquinPhoenix is on fire. Here comes the OSCARS."

"#JoaquinPhoenix wins Critics choice and Golden Globe... next stop Academy Award," tweeted another fan.

"The Billion Dollar Clown continues to dominate the World," wrote one fan.

This seems to be a clear trajectory, as in Mahershala Ali won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for 'Green Book', after victories in the supporting actor categories at both the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice. In 2018, Gary Oldman won the Golden Globe and Critics Choice, before winning his first Academy Award in 'Darkest Hour'.

Leonardo DiCaprio won the two awards before securing the Oscar for 'The Revenant'. Other actors in this list would include Brie Larson for 'Room', JK Simmons for 'Whiplash' and Anne Hathaway for 'Les Miserables'.

It remains to be seen whether 'Joker' will win at the Oscars.
