'Stop doing that!' Coco Austin comes under fire for ‘inappropriate’ dance with 7-year-old daughter Chanel
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Coco Austin, the wife of rapper Ice-T, recently shared a video of her dancing with her daughter, Chanel, 7, which elicited negative reactions from her followers who deemed some of the steps to be “inappropriate." The ‘Ice Loves Coco’ TV star shared the video to the chagrin of her 3 million Instagram followers.
On Tuesday, April 11, Coco shared the short clip in her account with the caption, “Chanel always makes me do these weird dances I just go with it. I stole this from her phone to show you. Lol,” with a slew of hashtags, “#mommydaughter #dynamicduo #trending #follow.”

The ‘Playboy’ magazine model and her 7-year-old daughter were seen wearing coordinating black and white sets while they were seen shaking legs to the tune of a remixed version of Black Eyed Peas’s ‘Boom Boom Pow.’ However, netizens did not take kindly to the step where Chanel tries to smack her mother’s buttocks twice as she lifted her limb towards the little girl.
Coco slammed for 2021 'twerking' video of her daughter
This is, however, not the first time the model has come under the scanner of Internet critics for posting videos of her daughter. In November 2021, on a similar incident, Coco posted an Instagram reel where the little girl could be seen teaching her grandmother 'how to ‘twerk’. “So, you go like this,” says Chanel while bending over to stick her butt out and putting her hands on her knees. “And then you go,” twerks the little instructor. However, her grandmother, who is also her student, asked her, “But what are you doing? Do I do squats, or what are you doing with your butt?” It was then that Coco entered the frame by saying, “Wait, what are you guys doing exactly?” and reiterated “What are you doing?” The little teacher then enthusiastically shouted, “Twerking!”
“You’re teaching [my] mom how to twerk?” asked the bemused Coco. Meanwhile, Coco’s mother quipped, “I don’t know how to do it,” to which Chanel went to her knees and aimed her bottom toward the air. The same move was then mimicked by her eager student. Coco reacted, “Oh…My…God,” before adding with a laugh, “This is what you do when family’s over. Ohhh my gosh,” reports Hot New Hip Hop.
Coco was heavily criticized during that time also as one user said, "This ain’t cute no kid should be moving like that !!!!!!! Very inappropriate," while another chimed in, "Guess who’s not being invited to the other kids parties."
'I feel sorry for this kid'
It seems like Coco's recent video of dancing with her daughter wasn't taken lightly by the Internet. Many seemed to be condemning the mother for dancing 'inappropriately' with her daughter. One user commented, "It is not appropriate for a little girl or her mother." Another commented, "She's mastered how to get views on social media." "You always make it like she starts all these things through the years, it’s all you. You’re trying to make her YOU," criticized the third. The fourth remarked, "Stop doing that to your kid. Unfollow."
"I feel sorry for this kid," mourned another. “It’s weird she has her slap her like that. It is weird sorry," commented another while another unamused netizen wrote, “Inappropriate inappropriate Coco inappropriate." An Instagrammer showed their disapproval by saying, “How sad that that is the new training of parents to children, and worse, that is celebrated by the rest of society, that is why the world is the way it is."
However, certain social media users also supported Coco. One user defended, "I think its just great you all do so much together as a family. Let the haters hate. I see a happy fun family all the time with you three (and Ice T's kids too!) You are so "hands on"! I think you are nurturing a healthy relationship with Chanel. Kids grow up fast and when you are a celebrity, they grow up even faster. I see you and Chanel always being two peas in a pod because you two will always be able to share everything! And proud PaPa Ice T will protect both of you!"
