'American Idol' Top 7: HunterGirl slammed for 'pitchy' performance, fans say she is 'overrated'
Ever since HunterGirl bagged the Platinum Ticket on 'American Idol' Season 20, fans had mixed feelings about it. While some fans felt that she deserved it, others pointed out that the Tennessee native sounded like any other country singer.
Despite all the criticism, HunterGirl managed to make it to the Top 7 round on the ABC singing competition show. For her top 7 performances, she had to pick a popular TikTok song to perform to. Under the mentorship of Will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas fame, the 23-year-old picked Tate McRae's 'You Broke Me First', marking HunterGirl venturing into the pop genre territory. Will.i.am pointed out how she had the perfect recording artist voice but felt that she could work on her vocals for her live performances. She took the feedback in her stride and delivered a pretty solid performance which the judges couldn't get enough of.

Though the judges loved HunterGirl's vocals and performance, fans sadly didn't share the same feeling. Many fans slammed the aspiring country singer's 'pitchy' performance. A fan tweeted, "HunterGirl started off pretty good but she started screaming, she lost me. Couldn't hold the right key #AmericanIdol." "Hunter Girl was awful.. what happened? #AmericanIdol," wondered a fan. "#AmericanIdol they will praise hunter girl but she was PITCHY in multiple spots," pointed out a fan. "Huntergirl meh. #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan.
