SEATTLE, WASHINGTON STATE: Vicky Cornell, the widow of late frontman Chris Cornell, has finally reached a legal settlement with his legendary band Soundgarden after a grueling years-long legal struggle. This has made it possible for the band's final recordings to be released more than five years after the lead singer's tragic death.

Vicky, who oversees the late singer's estate, filed a lawsuit against Soundgarden in federal court in 2019 for royalties from songs her husband recorded, which she claimed were intended to be solo projects but the band claimed were a part of their partnership with him. Chris was discovered dead on May 18, 2017, in a Detroit hotel room, and police have determined the cause to be a suicide. On Monday, April 17, Vicky announced that she has reached an agreement with the Seattle-based grunge band through her Instagram.

"The two parties are united and coming together to propel, honor, and build upon Soundgarden's incredible legacy as Chris's indelible mark on music history - as one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time," the statement concluded.

The new partnership will allow the final songs starring Chris and the band, which also includes drummer and backup vocalist Matt Cameron, bassist and backup vocalist Ben Shepherd, and lead guitarist Kim Thayll, to be released, and that is possibly the most thrilling development for fans.

'Thanks for working together and getting this done'

On Twitter, several fans have reacted to this news with one tweeting, "This is such good news. Chris would want this. Fans like myself will be over the top to hear new material that Chris and Soundgarden produced. Thanks for working together and getting this done." Another fan wrote, "This is wonderful to hear and I hope one day we can get any remaining Audioslave tracks that may be hiding somewhere as well." A third fan wrote, "Thank you so much for the good news Vicky. You're awesome. I wish everyone knew that. Loud love."

"Thank you so much for doing this. Your husband's voice and music navigated me through some difficult times and deeply influenced my approaches to writing and singing. His loss still stings all these years later. God bless you, and much love," one fan wrote.
