The late jazz and fusion pianist lost his battle to cancer at the age of 79 on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at his home in Tampa, Florida. The news of his passing was only made public a while ago, after it was shared on Corea's official Facebook page.
The statement said, "It is with great sadness we announce that on February 9th, Chick Corea passed away at the age of 79, from a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and a great mentor and friend to so many. Through his body of work and the decades he spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions."

Many remember him as a member of Miles Davis' band and in the 1970s late Corea had also formed the group named Return to Forever. My mission has always been to bring the joy of creating anywhere I could, and to have done so with all the artists that I admire so dearly—this has been the richness of my life.” He is survived by his wife vocalist/pianist Gayle Moran whom he married in 1972 and his two children Thaddeus and Liana.
