Woman, 70, dies after falling and hitting her head while escaping troop of aggressive monkeys at home

Chataraboina Narsavva was hospitalized soon after the incident but she died from her injuries

HYDERABAD, TELANGANA: A 70-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a troop of tumultuous monkeys while on her way to the bathroom in Southern India. Chataraboina Narsavva, who lived with her daughter, was alone when the monkeys pounced on her in the state of Telangana's Kamareddy district. 

Narsavva, a native of Ramareddy village, sustained severe injuries as she slipped and hit her head on the ground in an attempt to escape the mob of wild animals. Her daughter, who had been away for a wedding, hospitalized her mother immediately after she learned about the incident. Narsavva, however, died from her injuries. The old woman's family cremated her soon after her death. The police are currently investigating the case.

'They did not bite her'

Circle inspector of Ramareddy police station, Anil, dismissed the claims that Narsavva had been bitten by the monkeys during the attack. "We have come to know through locals that when the monkeys attacked her, she tried to escape. In the process, she slipped and fell down. She suffered head injury and died," the inspector said. "They did not bite her," he stated while adding that no FIR had been registered as there was no complaint. "The family members cremated Narasavva soon afterwards. We are probing the issue," he confirmed of the matter, as per The Times of India.

India is home to millions of primates

The fatal attack adds up to the long list of monkey-related attacks in India which is home to millions of primates. Only a year ago, a five-year-old girl named Narmada died after being mobbed by enraged monkeys in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Narmada was reportedly playing on the banks of the Nakatiya river in Bareilly when she was attacked by the animals. The local villagers learned about the matter after a group of children cried for help. Upon rushing to the scene, the villagers rescued the young girl from the monkeys and immediately hospitalized her. Narmada had been "bitten almost everywhere," and was bleeding. She died from her injuries, as per the outlet.
