MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Former US president Donald Trump has been indicted over a hush money payment of $130K made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. This makes him the first person in US history to serve as president and then be charged with a crime. Trump is reportedly facing more than 30 counts related to business fraud.

A spokesman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a statement, "This evening we contacted Mr Trump’s attorney to coordinate his surrender to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment, which remains under seal. Guidance will be provided when the arraignment date is selected," as per The Washington Post.

'This Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden'

Following the indictment, Trump released a statement and said, as per CNN, it was “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.” The 76-year-old further said, "I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden. The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!," as per CNN. Trump, who lives in Florida and is expected to travel to New York City for his formal arrest and first hearing in court, will surrender next week, on April 4.

'Let 2023 be the year of accountability'

Many celebrities were also quick to post following the update. 'Star Trek' star George Takei wrote, “Let 2023 be the year of accountability," and also added, “Happy indictment day, to those who celebrate." Comedian Kathy Griffin wrote, "It’s finally happening," as per The Hill. 'Top Chef' host Padma Lakshmi tweeted a GIF of children dancing as she wrote, “Did somebody say indictment?”

On the other hand, 'Charmed' star Alyssa Milano commented, “Although accountability is vitally important and no one is above the law—this is a really sad day for The United States Of America.” In a separate tweet, she wrote, "As Americans, we deserve leaders who act honorably in our interests and govern in our name. A Grand Jury of everyday Americans across race, background and party has indicted the former MAGA President," and added, “The MAGA Republicans in office lied for [Trump] and want to undermine and overturn our entire legal system to keep covering up for him. It's past time for every Republican in office to declare they are with the American people in demanding Trump & his co-conspirators stand trial.”

The political blogger, graphics designer, and musician, Jeff Tiedrich, wrote, "Donald Trump has been indicted on 34 counts. For those of you keeping score at home, that's 34 more counts than Hunter Biden has." While Grammy-winning songwriter Diane Warren tweeted, “Happy Donald Trump is indicted Day!!!!”

Actor John Cusak said, "TRUMP INDICTED! Manhattan  - with the Wiesel flip!  A beautiful day - a day I thought I’d never see  -  Trump has done the impossible ; the entire system set up to make a president above the law - without admitting it. Only a pathological criminal idiot of such overwhelming proportions - could change that - congrats to trump - for piercing the imperial presidency - with cretinism beyond what structure could bear." Comedian Chelsea Handler also reacted with a video as she wrote, "Dreams do come true."
