NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Cara Delevingne honored her friend Karl Lagerfeld at the 2023 Met Gala as she wore an outfit recreating the late designer's signature white shirt and iconic grey hair. Delevingne lived up to this year’s theme of 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty' as she wore a grey wig and a white custom Lagerfeld mini shirt-dress.

Delevingne paired her outfit with black thigh-high leg warmers, matching stilettos, and fingerless gloves. Her wig was created by Noah Scott and styled into textured waves by hairstylist Danielle Priano. Meanwhile, her Chrome Hearts jewelry was selected by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn. Delevingne’s look for the evening was glammed up by make-up artist Hung Vanngo and nail artist Thuy Nguyen. It was the model’s 11th time attending the star-studded event at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Delevingne, who was first hired by Lagerfeld in 2012 before becoming a muse for Chanel, opened up about her tribute to Lagerfeld while speaking on Monday, May 1. “It is a big night, yeah, a lot of emotions honestly. I cried on the way here a little bit,” Delevingne shared as per Vogue.

“It's a wonderful thing to be able to do this and honor such an incredible person - not only in fashion but personally as a friend. I owe him so much and it's an amazing way to remember him,” she added. Delevingne also took to Instagram to share a photo of her Met Gala 2023 look with the caption, “This one’s for you KL.”

‘Karl must be proud’

Fans were quick to react to Delevingne’s homage to Lagerfeld and took to Instagram to praise the actress. “She looks good wow gorgeous,” one commented “Karl must be proud of you my diamond,” added another. “Aaaaaaaah finally A LOOK at this MET!!!!!! He’s proud of you, indeed!” a third fan exclaimed. One said, “Best yet darling” while another simply added, “Incredible.”

Cara Delevingne checked herself into rehab last year

Delevingne’s appearance at the 2023 Met Gala came after the actress checked herself into rehab to battle addiction issues last December. She said she experienced a wake-up call after seeing ‘heartbreaking’ images of herself at the airport and decided to seek professional help at the $50K per month Cirque Lodge rehab in Utah to treat mental health and substance abuse issues.

“This process obviously has its ups and downs, but I've started realizing so much,” the ‘Carnival Row’ told Vogue in an interview. “People want my story to be this after-school special where I just say, ‘Oh look, I was an addict and now I'm sober and that's it.’ And it's not as simple as that. It doesn't happen overnight… Of course I want things to be instant — I think this generation especially, we want things to happen quickly — but I've had to dig deeper,” she added.
