Cannes 2019 Day 9: Winnie Harlow, Romane Bohringer and Nabilla Benattia join ranks of worst-dressed celebrities
Spanning twelve long days, Cannes Film Festival is one of the biggest occasions in the film and fashion calendar for celebrities to dress up to the nine.
As such, day 9 of the Cannes Film Festival 2019 — which saw the premieres of 'Matthias Et Maxime' (Matthias and Maxime), 'The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil' and 'Oh Mercy! (Roubaix, Une Lumiere)' — saw celebrities walk the red carpet in some of the most stunning outfits of the festival.
As the trend of ballgowns, dramatic trains and pantsuits continue to haunt this year's festival, here are some of the looks that failed to impress us:
1. Nabilla Benattia
Benattia wore a polka dotted asymmetrical one-shouldered floor length dress. The dress was unflattering and looked like a bunch of fabric that was hastily stitched together. The shoulder had a feathered embellishment which did nothing for it. It was a pretty boring choice.
2. Camille Charriere
We've seen many celebrities stripping their outfits down to the bare minimum on the red carpet and Camille Charriere has recently joined their ranks. Wearing nothing but a slip by Philosophy with Chopard jewellery, Charriere looked sexy. The triangular lace part around her breast was like a buffer to whatever vibe she was trying to channel. Plus, although we stand with freeing the nipple, Charriere's slip-dress seemed like a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.
Go back to bed, Charriere, we're unimpressed!
3. Patricia Contreras
Patricia Contreras tried to channel a weird 'My little Pony' vibe in her Celia Kritharioti Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection lime green mini-dress with a blue holographic train. The train began with a weird puff on her sides and it looked like an odd intersection of too many styles.
4. Lorena Rae
Lorena Rae wore a Couture Rami Kadi fuschia silhouette with a floor-sweeping overskirt with Messika Jewellery. The minidress was okay on its own but the single full flared sleeve looked like an odd addition. The rest of the flared overskirt reminded us of Winnie Harlow's red number but was still incongruent with the whole look. And there was definitely too much going on.
5. Winnie Harlow
Speaking of bare minimum, Winnie Harlow attended the premiere of 'Oh Mercy! (Roubaix, une Lumiere)' on day 9. Harlow wore a sheer Ralph and Russo outfit with a green and black sequined embellishment with Boucheron jewellery. The dress itself was a brave choice and let Harlow bare all for the cameras, but it looked like a walking malfunction. The blue eyeshadow was also a little off for the outfit as a whole. Special appreciation does go out to the designer for choosing the most strategic placement for the embellishment. But we expected more...
6. Lana El Sahely
Lana El Sahely wore a red ruffled Valentino dress with a Messika neckpiece. The ruffles themselves were overdone and with a neckline so high, the beautiful neckpiece just lost its value. There were literally too many ruffles and the dress seemed all over the place and unflattering, but the makeup was on point.
7. Anna Sherbinina
Anna Sherbinina wore a led full-length dress with black bird-shaped lace embroidery. The bird embroidery on the dress wasn't as bad as the lace frills on the shoulders. This dress looked like a combination of your grandma's old ball gowns and a black lace doily. The red leather gloves were just overkill.
8. Marianna Massey
Marianna Massey looked cute in her black velvet dress until you saw the pale pink ruffle at the end. Don't get us wrong, the ruffles were cute too, but they did give us the impression that she had a ruffled tail. The cut of the dress itself was absolutely brilliant and the rest of the dress looked incredible.
9. Sara Forestier
Sara Forestier wore a pretty pink off-shoulder gown with pink feather embellishments. The dress was a good choice for the carpet, but the feather-fringe detail just ruined the whole feel of the dress. Instead of channelling the pretty, princess vibe, it gave us a 'vintage-leave at the back of the closet' vibe. Moreover, there was a black ribbon at the back which came out of nowhere. T'was cute, but we're not impressed.
10. Romane Bohringer
Romane Bohringer made the bravest red carpet choice ever and she gets brownie points for effort. Rather unconventional, Bohringer turned up for the premiere of 'Matthias Et Maxime (Matthias and Maxime)' in a Rolling Stones t-shirt and bell-bottom jeans. She wore a big brown belt and finished the look with gold bangles, a choker, a couple of chunky rings and a pair of shades, channeling the whole cool mom from the 2000s vibe.
Although we are extremely impressed by the casual outfit, on the red carpet, one expects more than just a pair of jeans.
