Cannes 2019 Day 8 red carpet fashion: Elle Fanning, Margot Robbie and Valerie Pachner make list of worst-dressed celebrities

UPDATED MAY 22, 2019

On Day 8 of Cannes Film Festival 2019, the crème de la crème of the filmmaking world stepped onto the red carpet for the premieres of Quentin Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and Bong Joon-ho's 'Parasite'.

While most celebrities put their best foot forward, some failed to hit the spot.

Here are some of the looks that failed to impress us:

1. Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie wore a Chanel Couture sequined tunic and sequined black pants for her first time ever on the red carpet there. This is Robbie's first major red carpet this spring. The tunic had a flower and a bow which seemed a little confusing but was a cute touch. The pants were ill-fitting and did nothing to accentuate her features. The whole look was a little confused and didn't make the cut.

Leave it to Robbie to pull off almost anything!

2. Elle Fanning

Fanning wore a Dior ensemble, a silk organza blouse, an A-line black tulle skirt and a wide-brimmed hat to complete the look. The look itself gave off a Grace Kelly vibe, but the hat may have ruined it.

It was cute but it just didn't work.

3. Gabriela Gonzalez

Gabriela Gonzalez wore a silver, strappy, chainmail dress. Don't get us wrong, Gonzalez looked very hot in the dress but it failed to rise to the occasion. There were too many slits and the patterns of the dress clashed. It looked like there was too much going on.

4. Aimee Song

Aimee Song wore a yellow Chopard by Caroline dress with Chopard Jewellery. Song pulled off the ensemble but the dress and the outfit itself was a bit overdone. The train did nothing for the dress.

5. Valerie Pachner

Pachner chose a yellow straight-cut patterned sequined dress. The sequins themselves were too chunky for the entire outfit and the giant sequined arrow through the middle of the dress was just plain weird. The silver stilettos were just overkill. The dress was a terrible pick and could have been executed better. The makeup was the only thing that was on point.

6. Luma Grothe

Grothe was a beauty in the Alexandre Vauthier dress. She looked like a sexy soldier from the underworld, just shiny. The dress did nothing to accentuate her features and the skirt was too bunched up for its own good. The sleeves and skirt also looked rather messy.

7. Chloe Sevigny

Chloe Sevigny wore a pink scalloped Miu Miu mini dress with an oversized bow across the shoulder. The bows were overdone at Cannes and this one just adds to the list. The dress wasn't necessarily a bad choice, it was just a boring option. Nevertheless, I think we can let Sevigny have this win.

8. Tiziana Rocca

Rocca wore a black floor-length gown with a floral top and a cascading fringe segment from the waist below. The jewelry was the only thing that looked good but the dress was actually three different ones. It fit her well, but it was definitely all over the place.

9. Rym Eltaief

Rym Eltaief wore a white ballgown with a sheer strappy top. The cross designed white tulle part did nothing for the gown and looked more awkward than it should've. The looks seemed incomplete. At least her makeup was on point.

10. Valentijn de Hingh

Valentijn de Hingh wore a Viktor and Rolf pantsuit. The pantsuit and the bow were incredibly over-the-top and the whole outfit was kind of 'blah'.  The giant bow joins the league of other bows we've seen this Cannes and the net accessory on the face was extremely pointless.

Again, it may be couture, but it just didn't work.
