Cannes 2019 red carpet: Eva Longoria, Selena Gomez and Julianne Moore among best-dressed stars in French Riviera

This year's red carpet was dominated by capes and gowns and we couldn't help but be mesmerized by the rather 'royal-looking' numbers
UPDATED MAY 24, 2019

The film world's most talented artists have headed to the south of France to attend the annual Cannes Film Festival.

The 72nd Cannes Film Festival kicked off in Cannes on Tuesday, May 14 and the red carpet was a scene of extravagance.

The 11-day long festival, which is complete with premieres, parties and plenty of photo opportunities, has become known as one of the most glamorous red carpet events of the year, bringing in crowds of A-list celebrities, models and directors.

This year's red carpet was dominated by capes and gowns and we couldn't help but be mesmerized by the rather 'royal-looking' numbers.

Here are some of our favorite looks:

1. Eva Longoria

Dressed in a stunning creation by Alberta Ferretti, Longoria wore a blush pink satin gown with a gold sequined bustier. Her makeup was bold and simple and accessories were minimal. The one-sided off-shoulder gown was the perfect pick for her physique. The custom-made gown featured a thigh-high slit and train that showed enough of her perfectly toned legs. Longoria absolutely sizzled the red carpet and stole the show.

2. Melita Toscan Du Plantier

Simple and elegant, Melita Toscan Du Plantier was a vision in white. She embellished the look with beautiful jade earrings and a few bracelets. The makeup kept the eyes bold and the lips pale and pink perfectly complimenting the flowers on the gown. The look was topped off with a beautifully braided hair-do.  This flowing and floral gown brought the taste of the countryside all the way to the French Riviera!

3. Gong Li

Actress Gong Li, who was to be honored with the Women in Motion prize, wore an intricately embellished, pale white gown with a long, lacy cape. Li kept the makeup and didn't accessorize too much. She let the dress do all the talking and the ethereal princess look is definitely the way to go!

4. Natalia Janoszek

Wearing Polish designer Lou, Natalia Janoszek was truly the 'Lady in Red'.  She wore a flare-pleated gown with a sweetheart neckline and kept the accessories simple with studded earrings and a ring. Janoszek looked truly beautiful.

5. Izabel Goulart

In an Etro Couture dress and Chopard jewelry, the supermodel was sure to grace the red carpet the same way she does the runway. Her makeup perfectly complemented the gown and this purple-hued wonder was the sleekest look of the whole evening.

6.Elle Fanning

There were quite a few capes afloat this year. Elle Fanning in her peach-colored number was one of the most memorable ones of the night. Fanning is wearing a satin gown by Gucci. The v-neck gown bore a cape of the same cloth. The ruffles at the bottom did not do justice to her look but went with the overall aesthetic. She never fails to land on best-dressed lists and rightly so. We can say that we're total 'Fans' of this diva.

7.Frederique Bel

Frederique Bel was a turquoise princess in a Yanina couture caped gown. She accessorized her look with Elke Berr creations, Bijoux Burma and Charles Jourdan shoes. This halter-neck look was dreamy and fun and we can't stop looking at it!

8.Estelle Lefebure

Over the years, we've seen a ton of celebrities try to channel their interpretation of Swan Lake and fail. Dressed in a white, layered floral bust with a black bottomed Yanina Couture gown and Bijoux Burma jewelry, Estelle Lefebure is the embodiment of Swan Lake.

9. Selena Gomez

Selena wore a one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton number paired with an oversized Bulgari diamond necklace. Her white bustier definitely gave us classic Madonna vibes from her 1991 Cannes look. She opted for a stunning red lip with a bold winged liner to complete her look. Gomez absolutely 'slayed' the red carpet.

10. Romee Strijd

Strijd wore a custom made Etro gown. The lace gown featured a deep plunging neckline with a mermaid train. She styled her blonde locks in soft waves that were carefully tucked behind her ears. The supermodel pulled off this look very elegantly and proved once again that the old Hollywood look never goes out of style.

Apart from these A-listers, special mentions also go to Dilan Cicek Deniz in her pale blue and beautiful neckpiece, Julianne Moore in her emerald green Dior Haute Couture gown and Chopard jewellery, Xu KeXi in her Dior Haute Couture look and Louise Bourgoin in the black full-length off-shoulder gown with pockets (talk about comfort and style).
