Two months ago, Camille Vasquez was just another unknown defamation litigator with more than a decade of experience practicing law – hardly the type of person one would expect to become an overnight online star. Vasquez is now enjoying the success that comes with a high profile case but also the burden of sudden celebrity. Vasquez remarked on ‘Good Morning America’ on Wednesday, June 8, “It’s been surreal. If I’m being honest, a bit overwhelming. But if I can be an inspiration to young women who want to go to law school and study and work hard, then I’m all for it.”

Vasquez can thank her fiery exchanges with Heard for attracting so much attention — the two clashed several times while Heard was on the stand. On cross-examination, Vasquez suggested Depp struck a "connection" with the jury, but Heard struggled to reconcile her own contradictory testimony. Vasquez said, “I think that her impression on the jury was … what it was! Something that we focused on in the cross-exam was using her words against her. Every question we asked was tied to something she said previously. And I think the jury got to see, and the world got to see and hear from Ms. Heard.”

Vasquez was recently promoted to partner at Brown Rudnick's Southern California office last week. She was previously an associate. Vasquez, a San Francisco native, earned a bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. She was promoted to partner after only four years at Brown Rudnick. It is obvious that the significant, public, live-streamed victory for a prominent client may have played the role in her huge career growth.

Meanwhile, Brown Rudnick, an international law firm that represented Johnny Depp. said in a statement, “We are pleased to announce that Camille Vasquez has been elevated to partner. She was a key member of the litigation team that won a jury verdict last week for actor #JohnnyDepp in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.” Her promotion came just days after Depp was handed a startling $15 million victory by a jury against ex-wife Amber Heard.
