Camille Vasquez, a part of Johnny Depp’s legal team that is representing him against Amber Heard in a Virginia court, has been hailed as "queen" after she apparently grilled the 36-year-old actress during her testimony. Depp and his former actress wife are currently involved in a defamation trial, initiated by the 58-year-old actor after a 2018 op-ed piece written by Heard was published in The Washington Post.

The ‘Aquaman’ actress had called herself a domestic violence survivor in the essay, without naming Depp. But his legal team believed that the op-ed was about him and they sued her for $50 million. Heard countersued the actor for $100 million. Now, each party is trying to prove in court that they were the victims, while the other one was the abuser in the relationship.

Depp testified first in the court after the trial began on April 11. After him, Heard was given to chance to tell her side of the story, which included several disturbing alleged incidents in which she suffered sexual as well as physical abuse at the hands of the ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ star with whom she was married to for less than two years. The duo got divorced in 2016.

But on May 5, the Virginia court, where the trial is going on, went on a break for a few days as Judge Penney Azcarate had to attend a pre-scheduled conference. On Monday, May 16, the much-talked-about defamation trial resumed and Vasquez went on to grill Heard on Monday and Tuesday. She asked some very difficult questions to ‘The Rum Diary’ actress while also accusing her of “making up claims of sexual assault, editing a May 2016 photo of herself with a red mark on her face, being “jealous” of Depp, and verbally abusing her ex-husband on several occasions,” The Daily Beast reported.

The cross-questioning reportedly included a lot of tense moments between Vasquez and Heard, who re-insisted that her op-ed was not about Depp. She told the court, “It’s about me. It’s about what happened to me after Johnny. It’s about what happened to me after I escaped my marriage. It’s about me and my life and what I endured once I moved on and got a TRO and moved on with my life. It was about what happened to me after. The only one who made it about him, ironically, was Johnny.”

But that did not appear to bother the attorney, who slammed Heard by saying, “An ongoing negative publicity campaign? You have no evidence of that,” after the actress claimed, “There’s been an ongoing smear campaign, an orchestrated smear campaign.”

However, amidst all the courtroom drama, Vasquez has gained her own stardom and a cult following among Johnny Depp supporters. A fan tweeted, “👑Queen Camille The Great 👏👏👏 #camillevasquez #JohnnyDeppVsAmberHeard #JohnnyDepptrial #johnnydepp #AmberHeard.”

Another fan said, “In a world full of Amber Heards be a Camille Vasquez. 🙌🏻😎💗 #JohnnyDeppvAmberHeard #JusticeForJohnny #AmberHeardIsAnAbuser.” “She’s an amazing attorney, that’s for sure! She is on her game! Way to go, Camille🥊,” the third one wrote.

In a tweet praising her, attorney Kathleen Zellner noted, “Camille Vasquez is the unrivaled star of the Depp trial. Her measured tone, incisive questions, total command of the facts and clear belief in her client are laudable. #TruthWins.”

A tweet read, “Camille Vasquez makes me wish I had gone into law. She’s a straight BADASS and a Hero!”

“Like they say here in the Southern U.S., ‘A True Lady Always has a Steel Hand in a Velvet Glove - Always Graceful, Always Kind Even When Needing to Be Firm.’ Way to be a Lady, Camille! You are a Star!!” another tweet added.

Juda Engelmayer, who was the spokesperson for Harvey Weinstein during his criminal sexual assault and rape trial, also commented on Vasquez. Engelmayer told The Daily Beast, “Johnny Depp is winning on social media—so his lawyer is doing the same. Historically, women who have defended men accused of sex crimes are met with online hate. But Camille Vasquez seems to have benefited from Johnny’s praise.” He added, “At the end of the day, it has to do with the affability. People always want to love Johnny Depp. He has been around for 35 years. If he is supporting someone, these people want to support him.”

Lawyer Donna Rotunno, who defended Weinstein in his New York trial, added, “People are so willing to jump on a bandwagon because people are not concerned about being canceled for doing it. It’s an uphill battle for Amber Heard because the public is not liking you—and even likes Johnny Depp’s lawyer more. That has to mess with your head a little.”
