For a fleeting few seconds in the Season 3 premiere of The CW's 'Burden of Truth', viewers went absolutely crazy with protagonist Joanna Hanley (Kristin Kreuk) pulling out a pregnancy test from her purse. Joanna was yet to take the test, but it was obvious just the possibility of being pregnant pretty much raked her up. Still, there was no clarity on that front as the episode soon turned its focus to Joanna's school friend Kodie Chartrand, whose two daughters got seized by Millwood Family Services. And even though Joanna dove headfirst into Kodie's rescue, everyone has been left hanging by the prospect of a baby Hanley-Crawford on the way.

The official synopsis of Episode 2 'Wherever You Go', states: "Joanna and Billy (Peter Mooney) decide to stay in Millwood to help Kodie. Joanna feels good about her chances in court but when a surprise witness shows up, things take a shocking turn. Meanwhile, Kat and Luna struggle to work together for the first time."

The fact that one of the most pivotal milestones in Joanna's life isn't slipped into the synopsis — or even hinted at — speaks volumes. As of now, there's no confirmation on Joanna's pregnancy or whether she even took the test for that matter. Or could this all be an elaborate ploy by the showrunners to not hint anything at all and just straight up drop the bomb in Episode 2?

In an interview with TV Line, star and executive producer Kristin Kreuk has opened up about this giant teaser the Season 3 premiere dropped on fans. “I think she’s terrified to know, and she’s terrified to face the idea of parenthood. I don’t think that Joanna, at the beginning of this season, believes that she can be a mother or she deserves to be a mother. She has so many doubts about her ability to nurture, and I think she’s kind of bought into, in some ways, the ideal of how society props up what the perfect mom is, and she doesn’t fit that mold in any way," Kreuk spilled to the outlet, thus quashing all speculations for the time being.

But television's biggest trip is unexpected, unplanned pregnancies turning out to be a blessing so for all we know, despite Kreuk hinting at how formidable the prospect is for Joanna, perhaps there couldn't be a better time to induce a pregnancy subplot in her story. Considering she is going to take up a custody battle for Kodie, maybe the prospect of becoming a parent herself will drive her and give her the extra push? Only Episode 2 will tell.

'Burden of Truth' airs on Thursdays at 8 pm only on The CW.
