LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Drew Barrymore and Brooke Shields claimed that their mothers were so "needy" that it seemed like they were "in love" with them. On Tuesday, April 11, episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show', the actresses got candid about their relationship with their mothers. The 'Never Been Kissed' actress asked the 'Blue Lagoon' star if her mother, Teri Shields, dated any of Brooke’s partners — as Drew’s mother did.

Brooke, 57, who is promoting her autobiographical film, 'Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields', was candid about her complicated relationship with her late alcoholic mother. Teri Shields died in 2012, days after she was criticized for letting her daughter pose naked for a Playboy magazine when she was 10 years old. Drew, 48, expressed her compassion by sharing her own anecdotes about her infamously strained relationship with her 76-year-old mother Jaid Barrymore.

'She was in love with me'

Drew questioned Brooke whether her mother like Drew's had dated any of her partners. Brooke responded, "No, because she was in love with me," explaining that her mother had no desire for men while she was overseeing her daughter's professional life. "I was her main focus. Both of us were cut off from our sexuality."

Following that, Drew talked about her personal encounters with an instance when her mother, Jaid, attempted to date her then-boyfriend. The 'Charlie's Angels' star said, "My mom was so enamored with me that she wanted to be with the people I was with" to which Brooke responded by saying, "I get it. It's so needy and weird," adding that her mother, Teri, used to attend every interview she had.

Brooke went on to say, "No one's going to get you. I'm going to be there. I'm there first. You're mine. I'm not going to give you to somebody. Under the guise of protection, but it was more ownership and fear."

Brooke then added that she didn't mind her mother's actions at the time because their acquisition of "stuff" she had never had before in her life was an outcome of her own accomplishment. She recounted, "I did a movie and we got a car. All I knew was keep my mother alive, keep dancing and get stuff."

'Two beautifully, strong women‼️'

Fans took to social media to pour out their supportive opinions on Drew and Brooke's candid conversation. One fan commented, "The women have amazing strength and resilience. So much respect to them for being able to carry through and lead strong adult lives, being supportive moms to their own children after going through childhoods that obviously lacked the emotional support they deserved." A second fan wrote, "Two beautifully, strong women‼️❣️‼️" A third fan typed, "I love Brooke so much and I love to see how she and Drew are so successful today. Also when I think about someone who also should have their life in a documentary, I think of Drew! ❤️"

Another fan took to Twitter to write, "Brooke shields said something on drew Barrymore that resonated w me re: posting ur kids online. She was like it’s fine as long as ur kid is a person not a product, that’s where the line is. I think I like that reasoning." Another fan tweeted, "Drew Barrymore and Brooke Shields informed my childhood. They were kids when I was a kid. They were teens when I was a teen. I loved them both then and I love them even more now. I love that they are healing from all the pain done today them." One more fan exclaimed, "Being able to watch @DrewBarrymore‘s interview with Brooke Shields is a privilege. These women shared a very specific kind of trauma, & seeing two people truly see each other & connect through their healing is something so hopeful."
