MATO GROSSO, BRAZIL: A Brazilian couple is in trouble after they brightly colored a waterfall blue on Sunday, September 25 to celebrate the birth of their son at a gender reveal party. The local authorities are currently looking into the expectant parents and may press charges for an environmental crime. The pair, who are unnamed by local media, posted many images of the azure Queima-Pé River waterfall and a balloon stork before taking them down in the face of intense criticism.

According to Daily Mail, the Queima-Pé River waterfall, located near the Tangará da Serra municipality, has long been an ecological tourist destination. It measures 18 meters high and is located 6km from the center of Tangara da Serra The Queima-Pé River, which recently went through a very long period of drought, is said to be Tangará da Serra's primary source of water. Several people now worry that their water is contaminated.  Thousands of people watched the clip across several social media platforms and a lot of people are demanding that the pair be charged with an environmental crime.

One Reddit user wrote, "What happened to cutting into a cake? Why does nature keep getting damaged because these people think they're special?" Another person wrote on Twitter, “OMG, I AM SO MAD! so, a couple in Brazil threw one of those gender reveal parties, and dyed a waterfall with blue ink, it was a river that supplies water for a city.” “They’ve crossed the line so much that the line is a dot to them,” another added.

Meanwhile, according to a statement made public by the state of Mato Grosso's environment secretary, the pair will be investigated to determine whether any crimes were actually committed. The statement reads, "The inspection will investigate the environmental damage caused by the material thrown into the water. If there is an environmental crime, those responsible will be charged and may be held accountable for an environmental crime."

According to the Brazilian site G1, Anderson Reis, who was reportedly one of those involved in the waterfall dyeing trick, denied using a chemical to create the blue color. He did, however, state that he would hold further comment until the environment secretary had finished their inquiry. Meanwhile, in recent years, gender reveal parties have drawn criticism for both their antiquated gender stereotypes and the fact that so many of them seem to go terribly wrong. In California, a ten thousand-acre blaze was sparked by a gender reveal in 2020, and in 2019, a woman was killed when her family accidentally detonated a pipe bomb during a gender reveal party.
