Bradley Cooper disses Hollywood’s awards season calling it 'utterly meaningless, devoid of artistic creation'

"It really does make you face ego, vanity, and insecurity. It’s very interesting and utterly meaningless," said Cooper

The entertainment that Hollywood offers from their productions to the birth of excellent stars is usually something audiences are excited about. When people in Hollywood are rewarded for their work in the business over the course of that year, many of their fans, their team, and their families relish the moment, should they win awards. Interestingly enough, as the years have gone by, many were over the facade that is the awards season -- including some of the stars themselves. Bradley Cooper, one of Hollywood's leading stars and an eight-time Oscar nominee (and the recipient of numerous awards) revealed to Interview Magazine that he finds the annual Awards season to be "utterly meaningless."

The article written by Interview Magazine is titled 'Anthony Ramos and Bradley Cooper on the Fallacy of Stardom', where the two actors seem to have quite a candid conversation. Calling the awards season a "real test," Cooper said, "It’s quite a thing to work through, and it’s completely devoid of artistic creation. It’s not why you sacrifice everything to create art, and yet you spend so much time being a part of it if you’re, in quotes, 'lucky enough to be a part of it.' It’s ultimately a great thing because it really does make you face ego, vanity, and insecurity. It’s very interesting and utterly meaningless."

This is an interesting thought coming from a man that has been recognized by awards committees for his exceptional work in movies such as 'A Star Is Born' starring opposite Lady Gaga aka Mama Monster and 'American Sniper', directed by Clint Eastwood. Not to mention, his most recent nomination was for the incredible work that was 'Joker.'

Even Ramos agreed with Cooper in their chat adding how team effort is not acknowledged as much as it should be, instead, the idea of winning as an individual is fostered. Replying to Cooper's statement about the awards, Ramos said, "I remember during the Tony Awards when we were doing Hamilton, I think we had 11 principals in the cast, and eight got nominated for awards, and there were three of us who didn’t get nominated. It was very easy to feel left out or to feel like, 'Man, did I not do a good enough job?'"

So, clearly the sentiments of the awards season, once coveted for its star-studded festivities, have now changed -- and not just among the Hollywood crowd. According to Breitbart, big events such as the Academy Awards saw viewership by 20 percent this year, with an "all-time low" of 23.6 million viewers. The publication called award ceremonies like the Oscars a "career kryptonite for comedians" who they say also have to face "scrutiny" as they reiterated the fact that comedian Kevin Hart was "forced" to bow out as a host due to old tweets that resurfaced. More so, it's been two years since the Oscars have even had a host. Now, actors as big as Cooper are emphasizing how being part of the industry -- whether in acting or directing or even producing -- is more about passion instead of the awards.
