Is rapper Black Thought better than Drake? Well, this is the newest debate in the world of hip-hop after a thread on Twitter went viral where a user claimed that the Toronto rapper was any day better than Black Thought, adding that there are more than 100 artists better than the iconic African-American musician whose real name is Tariq Luqmaan Trotter.

The Internet got involved in a debate and the loyal hip-hop fans decided to back Black Thought and slammed the viral thread which had a different opinion. The loyal fans of Black Thought made sure the message is passed along as they posted about the unmatched skills of the rapper and how important he is to hip-hop.

‘Drake is better than Black Thought’

A Twitter user led to an uncalled comparison between Black Thought and Drake where he stated, “Drake is better than black thought all you old heads need to find better music.” The user then tweeted, “Black thought isn’t a top 100 rapper of all time.” The user then shared his personal list of artists who he thought were better than Black Thought and tweeted, “100 Artists better than Black thought.”

Well, he did not stop there and further said, “Drake paved the way for Kanye, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Future, lil Wayne. So if you disrespecting drake your disrespecting the father of hip hop.” Fueling the argument on the micro-blogging site, the thread concluded, “Black thought fans better cherish this moment and thank me because he will never trend ever again for the rest of his career.”

Who is Black Thought?

You must be familiar with Black Thought for his regular appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ with his band The Roots. He is the lead singer and co-founder of the multiple Grammy award-winning hip-hop collective. He is also an acclaimed rapper and is known for his live performance skills, double entendres, complex lyricism, continuous multisyllabic rhyme schemes and politically-aware lyrics. The  Philadelphia-bred lyricist is widely considered hip-hop royalty.

He has also starred in films such as ‘Bamboozled’, ‘Perfume’, ‘Love Rome’, and ‘Brooklyn Babylon’. He is best known for his songs like ‘Good Morning’, ‘Thought vs Everybody’, ‘Super Lyrical’ and others but he gained more respect from the fans when he spit a nearly 10-minute viral freestyle on Funkmaster Flex's show on Hot 97.1 FM in New York City in 2017.

‘You can never deny the skill set of Black Thought’

The viral thread led to a flurry of reactions from ardent hip-hop lovers where a majority of them reminded what skills Black Thought is known for. One user stated, “Saying “who tf is a black thought” should disqualify you from listening to hip hop let alone speaking on it.” Another stated, “If you don’t know who Black Thought is keep that to yourself it’s embarrassing.” One added, “We really saying that Drake, a man who doesn’t even write his own lackluster rhymes, is better than Black Thought? During Black History Month?”

The next one asserted, “If Drake is at the top of your list and you have to ask “who is Black Thought”. You know absolutely nothing about hip hop.” One shared, “Y'all slandering Black Thought? One of the greatest rap lyricist we've ever seen. Classic tracks with The Roots. The record 10 minute freestyle on Hot 97 with Bars. He's been in the game way longer than Drake or any of your so called favorite rappers.” One posted, “You can never deny the skill set of @blackthought, one of the best that ever rocked the mic and still is blessing the fans with solid work.. #TheRoots”

Another concluded, “Those are black Thought lyrics which shows his mastery with words if you are able to understand what he was saying metaphorically the. We would not have to be having this dialogue about him vs Drake ...... but alas here we are.”
