Two-time NAACP nominated docuseries 'Black Love' is gearing to come back for Season 4. The series brings to the fore real, honest, emotional and transparent love stories from some of the most successful people in business, entertainment as well as everyday couples from the Black community. Here's everything you should know about it.
Release date
'Black Love' premieres on September 5, 2020, at 9 pm ET/PT only on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
Plot
'Black Love' highlights love stories from the Black community, making an attempt to find an answer to the burning question: "What is the secret to making a marriage work?" 'Black Love' dives into how love begins while showing the reality of what life-long love looks like, and offers proof that while it can happen for everyone, it isn't a cakewalk. The docu-series shares honest, emotional and sometimes cringe-worthy always-true love stories.
Cast
The featured couples this season will discuss topics from the early days of marriage such as navigating grief, dealing with mental health and the changes in intimacy over time.
Dulé Hill and Jazmyn Simon
The couple met on the sets of their HBO comedy series 'Ballers'. Jazmyn and Dulé have been married since 2018. "Best decision I’ve ever made," Simon said of choosing Hill, who she refers to as "love of my life" and also said that he's “literally everything” on the list of things that she wanted in a man.
Jemele Hill and Ian Wallace
Sports journalist and podcaster Jemele Hill married Ian Wallace in 2019. The two dated for four years after which Wallace popped the question to Hill at a Los Angeles rooftop following a helicopter tour. While speaking to People about how she knew that Wallace was the one for her, Hill said, "In addition to being hot, the one thing that has always been important to me in a mate is somebody who is comfortable in their own skin and who is very secure. A lot of women will tell you, especially if they’re ambitious, driven, successful, that it is hard to find men who are secure. There’s a lot of insecure dudes out here."
Bill and Kristen Bellamy
Bill and Kirsten Bellamy were dating for a couple of years before getting married in 2001. In an ESSENCE interview, Bill revealed the secret behind their long-standing relationship. "I think it's simple. It's about communication and connection... I have to make time for my family. They are more important than my career," he said.
The fourth couple featuring on the show is 'Greenleaf' star Deborah Joy Winans and her community activist and attorney husband, Terrence Williams.
Creators
Filmmaker couple Codie Elaine Oliver and Tommy Oliver along with Confluential Films are the creators of this show. The Olivers launched this show as newlyweds and set out to increase representation and create transparency around marriage in the Black community. They have now been married over five years and are raising three sons under four years old.
