Bindi Irwin-Chandler Powell's Aussie fans upset they will be 'the last ones' to see couple's TV wedding special
Australian fans of Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell are upset that the TV wedding special episode of 'Crikey! It’s the Irwins' will be aired in every other country before Australia.
The episode in question covered the wedding ceremony of the pair that took place in the Australia Zoo in Queensland, under limited circumstances due to the coronavirus lockdown rules in place, on March 25, 2020. The special aired in the United States, exclusively on Animal Planet, over the weekend, after which, Chandler Powell took to Twitter to reveal the sates it will be airing in the rest of the world. He wrote:
"Sharing dates for our wedding episode worldwide!
USA: NOW!
Australia: July 18
UK & Ireland: May 3
Taiwan: 23 May
South Korea: July 3
Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao, Mongolia, Maylasia (sic), Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam: May 18"
After learning that the country that the couple hails from and the place they chose to get married in will be the last region to see their wedding video, Australians were not happy. And a number of them made sure that the couple knew how displeased they were.
“I'm so confused why Aussies have to wait the longest when you got married 40mins down the road from me? #rippedoff," a Queenslander tweeted on Sunday, while another wrote, “I find it weird how the wedding took place in Australia and they're the LAST ones to see it.”
A third added: “Omg it was in Australia and Australians don't even get to see it until July like if you're mad.”
Chandler did take heed of the backlash that the couple was facing and made it clear to their fans that the program schedule was prepared by the network and they did not have a say in it.
“Programming is out of our control as Animal Planet decides when to air the show. We will keep you posted as we find out more air dates!” he wrote.
Bindi Irwin is the daughter of late Steve Irwin, fondly known throughout the world as the Crocodile Hunter, due to his former show of the same name. When the news about Steve's death made headlines, on September 4, 2006, it left people all over the world in a state of shock. However, the people who were most affected were his family that included wife Terri, Bindi and son Robert.
The news of his demise took everyone by surprise but they knew his legacy had to be kept alive. The family worked together to make his dream a reality but that did not fill the hole that had been made ever since they lost Steve.
In the episode that aired on Saturday, April 18, Bindi admitted that not having her dad by her side had been hard on her. She shared that growing up there were several milestones for which she wished she had him. Bindi reflected how life had been a challenge ever since her dad's death. She admitted her wedding would have been different had her dad been in the picture. Despite this, she knew that her dad would not have wanted her to be upset on her big day. Bindi admitted she was going to smile and be happy because that is what Steve would have wanted.
