Billie Eilish says Internet cares more about Depp-Heard trial than abortion rights, Internet responds
Billie Eilish drew the ire of netizens after she expressed her disappointment at seeing people care more about the Johnny Depp - Amber Heard trial than the Roe v Wade abortion law being overturned.
The 20-year-old songstress referenced the highly-publicized defamation trial in an unreleased song she performed in the UK earlier this year. Eilish sat down with NME magazine for an interview published on June 24, the same day the Supreme Court announced its verdict on overturning the controversial law. She shared that she referred to the trial in her song after the court's initial opinion draft was leaked in May.

“I was in this state of depression, losing my own rights to my own body, and then I’d go on the internet and it would be people giving their take on this trial," the singer told the magazine. "Who f**king gives a f**k? Women are losing rights for their bodies, so why are we talking about celebrities’ divorce trials? Who gives a sh*t? Let them figure it out on their own. The internet bothers the sh*t out of me sometimes," she added. Eilish then referred to the song 'TV,' which she performed at the AO Arena in Manchester on June 7. “The internet’s gone wild watching movie stars on trial, while they’re overturning Roe v Wade," she sang.
However, the 'Bad Guy' hitmaker was excoriated on social media, with some explaining to the singer that both situations are equally concerning and that people can care about multiple issues at the same time.
"What Billie Eilish doesn’t understand is that what happened to Johnny Depp kills many men. The silver bullet of a false allegation of DV is a scourge that ruins reputations, kidnaps children, and destroys families. So go ahead Billie - ‘slam the internet’ - whatever that means," author Greg Ellis tweeted.
"No BILLIE EILISH Johnny Depp's rights are not less important than women's rights Johnny Depp is a VICTIM even if he's a MAN," one Twitter user wrote.
"Celebrities divorce trials it wasn’t even about the divorce anymore, they went to trial because Johnny Depp was abused for many years and everyone treated him as a wife-beater, when in fact, Amber Heard was the abuser. Use your brain @billieeilish," another added.
"You don't give an "F" about DV abuse victims @billieeilish? Yes, pro-choice is crucial. I'm a DV survivor & work w/ DV victims. How dare u belittle real DV victims like JD whose trial is significant for ALL victims regardless of gender. #AbuseHasNoGender," a comment read.
"Yet another person having an opinion on JD versus AH without knowing what the case was about," someone else alleged.
"Girl and we can care about multiple things at once. So insensitive to male DV survivors. It wasn’t a “ celebrity divorce trial but a man fighting to get his life back. Stop telling us “ regular “ folks what to care about @billieeilish #JOHNNYDEPPWINS," another chimed in.

The Supreme Court shocked the nation after its conservative majority ruled 6-3 in favor of a Mississippi law seeking to outlaw abortion at 15 weeks of pregnancy. Several states have outlawed abortion and those seeking abortion treatments will now have to travel hundreds of miles to access the services.
