LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Stephen King's books have captivated a generation of readers with the spine-chilling plots and gritty suspense. Many of his books have been adapted to the big and small screens with 'Carrie', 'The Shining' and 'Lisey's Story' being some of the best examples. The most popular among them is 'It' and the sequel, 'It Chapter Two'.

Bill Skarsgard, whose portrayal of Pennywise in the movies was terrifyingly memorable, spoke about his involvement in HBO Max's new series, 'Welcome To Derry', that takes place in the town where the events of 'It' took place.

'Have fun with it'

Skarsgard, according to Comicbook, confirmed that he is currently not involved with the project. He said, "We'll see what they come up with and what they do with it. I'm, as of now, not currently involved in it," adding, "And if someone else gets to do it, my advice would just be: do it your own, make it your own, have fun with it, you know what I mean? What I thought was so pleasurable about that character was how incredibly abstract he was."

Before Skarsgard, Tim Curry played Pennywise in the two-part miniseries in 1990.

What is 'Welcome to Derry' about?

The series is still in the early development stage and there is very little information available about it. Instead of being a prequel, it will reportedly be about a number of strange events that plagued the tiny town in Maine.

Skarsgard said, "If you start reading Stephen King's cocaine-binged book, you just go like, 'What the hell?' There's so, so many weird tantrums and abstractions that you can sit, and decipher, and that's what I did with the character, and I really enjoy that aspect, and then inform the character," adding, "And the book is really a gift that way, so if someone would take it on, it's just, go through the book, and find all the clues, and they're so out there that you can kind of make your own conclusions to them."
