Bill Gates, one of the richest men in the world and also widely lauded for his philanthropic works, thinks Elon Musk can be a ‘Great Philanthropist’ as well. During an interview on Friday, February 3, the co-founder of Microsoft said, "I think someday he'll be a great philanthropist," while answering the question, "Would you encourage him to join your club of mega-philanthropists?" Gates referred to the success of Tesla, and noted, "Things like Tesla are having a positive impact even without being a form of philanthropy." The 67-year-old on the same subject said that he thinks Musk will not be spending too much of his fortune on himself, other than going to Mars a few times. "So yeah, someday I think he will join the rank of philanthropists," said Gates.

The interviewer directed a more specific question toward Gates, by asking whether going to Mars would be "a good use of money," to which Gates said, "Not in my view. It's actually quite expensive to go to Mars." He explained there is a lot more to do here on Earth presently than investing outside, reports People. "You can buy measles vaccines and save lives for $1,000 per life saved, and so it just kind of grounds you, as in don't go to Mars," Gates said.

'I don't talk about my investments'

Musk in April said that he didn’t take the offer to team up with Gates on a philanthropic project, questioning if he had shorted Tesla. In other words, will the tech giant benefit if Tesla shares fell? He had written on Twitter, "I heard from multiple people at TED that Gates still had half a billion short against Tesla, which is why I asked him, so it's not exactly top secret." Gates was asked directly if he shorted Tesla in 2021, to which he said, "I don't talk about my investments."

'Creepy misanthrope Gates'

During that interview, he also said that the 51-year-old entrepreneur, "should be very proud of what he's done."

There were quite a few reactions on social media too, where one wrote, "Creepy misanthrope Gates talking smack about Mr Tweet. Probably his real concern is that Elon is pro-human and could use his tech to stop the globalists' evil plans to enslave and kill us." The second said, Bill Gates is getting on his retirement train and he is taking his thoughts with it 😂" Another netizen came in support of Musk's space plans and tweeted, "He never knows maybe Elon can help other people too.

When Noah build an Ark, many people are laughing at him. Where he will use that big ark? In the end, we know where he used it right? So it's really hard to judge people beforehand." Jessica Tetreau said, "Preserving the light of consciousness is the ultimate act of philanthropy."
