Conservatives warned the public of the apparent existence and implementation of a so-called "New World Order" after President Joe Biden used the controversial phrase in a speech on Monday, March 21.

While the term is generally used to denote a significant geopolitical shift, it is mostly associated with a popular conspiracy theory that claims a secret globalist authority is seeking to establish a totalitarian regime and strip sovereign countries and citizens of their individual freedoms. Biden's use of the words "new world order" during remarks at Business Roundtable's CEO Quarterly Meeting in Washington D.C. perturbed many notable conservatives online.

Biden, on Monday, described how there were "significant opportunities to make some real changes" with respect to how the world reacts to Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine. The commander-in-chief, 79, added that the world was currently at an "infection point" that occurs every few generations. "As one of the top military people said to me in a secure meeting the other day, 60 million people died between 1900 and 1946. And since then, we've established a liberal world order, and that hadn't happened in a long while," Biden said. "A lot of people dying, but nowhere near the chaos. And now is a time when things are shifting. There's going to be a new world order out there, and we've got to lead it. And we've got to unite the rest of the free world in doing it," he added.

Conservatives on social media denounced Biden's remarks, with many referencing his usage of the controversial phrase "new world order."

"No, Joe Biden, there is no new world order coming on my watch," Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted.

"Joe Biden just declared that a new world order is coming. Another conspiracy theory come true," GOP congressional candidate Errol Weber added.

"Skyrocketing inflation & price of oil, combined with workers not returning to the workplace after Congress decided to pay people to stay home," Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote. "Stagflation is dawning. It’s like the 1970s again. But this time, we’re on the verge of WW3 and globalists want the new world order," she added.

"Biden's 'New World Order' line is pure self-delusion," journalist Kyle Becker offered. "America isn't leading jack sh**. China is leading the world — and the US is adopting its communist policies. America is destroying itself. This "fact check" is worthless for information value. It's just 'thought policing,'" he added.

"If there is a new world order I guarantee you no one thinks Joe Biden is in charge of it," journalist Jack Posobiec chimed in.

The phrase "new world order" has been used in the past to describe a consequential shift in the organization or global powers, especially after a major conflict such as World War II. Former President George H.W. Bush famously invoked the term while addressing the Persian Gulf crisis in September 1990. "Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective -- a new world order -- can emerge: a new era -- freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace," the late commander-in-chief declared.

However, the phrase is mostly used to describe a conspiracy theory that claims a global network of "elite" shadowy operators is conspiring to install an overarching socialist "world government" to rule the general populace. According to the Anti-Defamation League, those who believe the theory fear that "through repressive measures, as well as manufactured crises such as terrorist attacks and pandemics, the globalist conspirators seek to eliminate dissent and to disarm Americans so that the 'New World Order' can move in and enslave them."
