Bette Midler blames Texas storms on Ted Cruz and John Cornyn's denial of Joe Biden's win: 'God doesn't like them'

'These two also never recognized that #Joe won. If this isn't payback, I don't know what is,' the 75-year-old singer, songwriter, actor and author wrote

Bette Midler has suggested that the Texas winter storms are the wrath of “God” against Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, who have not yet accepted President Joe Biden’s victory. The 75-year-old was responding to a tweet that read, “Lol wait...Republican Texas is asking for disaster relief after a snow storm, but both their Senators voted against giving relief for Hurricane Sandy? Cornyn and Cruz might be the most inept Senators in the country at this point.”

Replying to this tweet, Midler said, “‘Inept’ is the wrong word. ‘Hateful’, ‘Vicious’, ‘Cruel’ might all apply.  I feel for the people suffering thru this weather, but #God doesn't seem to like #TedCruz or #JohnCornyn. These two also never recognized that #Joe won. If this isn't payback, I don't know what is.”

The singer’s post attracted a lot of attention online with one saying, “Not to mention they're asking for disaster relief for accumulation of snow that is fewer inches than what's in their pants and we all know that ain't much.” Another tweeted, “Please use this as a reason to vote out @tedcruz and others.  Remember that gerrymandering is the real cause that your government doesn’t represent you.  Make your voices heard.”

“I wish there was something I could do.  Living in Minnesota we are used to it and prepared.  Although we have never had it to this extreme that I remember,” a user added.

However, there were many who were not happy with Midler’s words and called it “rude”. One person tweeted, “There’s a lot of Texans that don’t agree with our politicians or their policies. Your statement was rude and insensitive at a time like this. You might have earned a spot on the cancel cultures top 10 list.”

A user commented, “Unfortunately your tweet shows your ignorance of God. The Bible is clear that God loves everyone, including you. It is my prayer that someday you too will have a relationship with him.” Another said, “I can’t believe I was ever a fan .... my whole life. It’s very disappointing to see this from her.” A user added, “This is vile. Unfortunately, not surprised... trying to stay relevant doesn’t look good on you, Bette.”

Midler was not just slamming Cruz and Cornyn. A few hours later she also went on to attack Rush Limbaugh after his death on Wednesday, February 17. The singer tweeted, “#RushLimbaugh has gone to his reward. Bet it’s hot.”

She also responded to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s tweet, who posted: “Rush Limbaugh’s passing is a tragic moment. Callista and my sympathies go out to his family and loved ones. He was a wonderful man and one of the great heroic figures of the conservative movement.”

The ‘Beaches’ actress wrote: “NO, #Newt, his BIRTH was a tragic moment.  He was one of the vilest reptiles who ever trolled the planet.  And of course, birds of a feather, Newt.  Mend your ways, lest YOUR death bring the outpouring of joy so many feel at his demise.”

Several people seemed to be agreeing with her as a user wrote, “I only wish he was alive to see how happy we all are that he is dead.” A user said, “Yeah.  Rush was a piece of human shit.  Newt is another.  I'll happy dance on Newt's grave, too.  I'm sorry, but if you live a life devoted to pissing on good people, you will not have a happy afterlife. Not if I have anything to say about it.”
