LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bette Midler has not shied away from showing her anger towards Twitter boss Elon Musk after he removed the blue tick from her account. The 77-year-old comedian referred to Musk as a “worm” as she expressed her frustration over the development.

Midler tweeted, “Elon took my blue check away! I’m unverified!  After all these years and thousands of tweets and free content, this worm has the nerve to de-certify me!”. Earlier, when Twitter was not under the Tesla CEO, only verified accounts of some celebrities, political commentators, journalists and other persons of interest had the blue check verification.

‘Stop acting so entitled’

But after Musk’s acquisition, several things have changed, including how the blue tick mark is bestowed. Now, many prominent users of the microblogging site have lost the verified account label, including actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Jon Stewart. The 51-year-old investor reportedly wants people to pay $8 monthly to get back their blue ticks under their Twitter Blue subscription.

Meanwhile, Midler’s tweet has attracted over 30k likes and numerous comments. Several people appeared to lambast her for disapproving of the change. A user tweeted, “It’s quite the equalizer, isn’t it? How dare he not distinguish you from the peasants.” Another user sarcastically shared, “You got 2.1 mil followers...Start a go fund me page......🤣🤣🤣🤣.” The third one said, “If I can afford $11.77 so can you. Stop acting so entitled. Pay up or get out.” “You agreed to the terms of service and provided that personal information on your own.  Nowhere we’re you ever guaranteed or promised a lifelong blue checkmark.  So quit acting like you were,” the fourth one wrote.

‘Awww honey are times that hard?’

“Sorry for your loss, life is tough 🙏,” a person quipped. The second one said, “If it means that much to you Bette, I will head over to Spirit Halloween and buy 30 copies of hocus-pocus for $8 so you can afford a checkmark.”

A person suggested below Midler’s tweet, “Stop freeloading, Bette. Pay for the service you use.” The second one added, “Awww honey are times that hard? You do know that if you skip just one facial peel it will pay for your eight dollars per month for a couple of years, right? Economy must be hard there in New York…”

This comes after Musk, earlier in March, posted on Twitter, “Given that modern AI can solve any “prove you’re not a robot” tests, it’s now trivial to spin up 100k human-like bots for less than a penny per account. Paid verification increases bot cost by ~10,000% & makes it much easier to identify bots by phone & CC clustering. Obvious conclusion: paid account social media will be the only social media that matters.”
