Ben Shapiro repeating 'p-word' while reading Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion's 'WAP' lyrics leaves fans in splits

American conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro was trending on Twitter on Monday, August 10. With elections drawing closer, and the US in the midst of a cultural watershed moment, there could have been a number of reasons for the right-wing commentator and podcaster to be trending. But the real reason was as bizarre as anything could be.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new number, ‘WAP’, has taken hold of music charts. Everyone is talking about it for various reasons -- not in the least because of the blink-and-miss appearance of Kylie Jenner in the video that has seemingly offended and angered many. But Shapiro joined the conversation with something else. On the 1,070th episode of his daily podcast, ‘The Ben Shapiro Show’, that aired on August 10, he discussed the song’s explicit lyrics, but with some amount of censure.
On his podcast, he read out the song’s lyrics, but with a dramatic flair. He also censored some of the words. He said. “Here are some of the lyrics. You ready? ‘Who**s in this house. There's some who**s in this house. There's some who**s in this house. There's some who**s in this house. Hold up. I said certified freak, seven days a week. Wet-a** p-word, make that pullout game weak. Yeah, you effin’ with some wet-a** p-word -- p-word is female genitalia -- Bring a bucket and a mop for this wet-a** p-word. Give me everything you got for this wet-a** p-word.’”
He went on to read more of the song’s lyrics, described the video, and then made snide remarks on feminism. At one point, he said, “Guys, this is what the feminists fought for.”
A Twitter user shared a small clip of Shapiro reading the song’s lyrics on Twitter and consequently, it was shared widely by many. He wrote, “Ladies please contain your excitement.”

People found Shapiro’s dramatic reading of Cardi B’s lines hilarious. YouTuber Ellen Rose said on Twitter, “I can't believe we live in a world where Ben Shapiro thought that angrily reading out the lyrics to WAP like a pearl-clutching mother at a school council meeting would not be extremely embarrassing for him.”

Another Twitter user said, “If Ben Shapiro is really that scandalized about a popular song containing the word ‘p****’, I hope he never listens to literally any death metal song. He’d spontaneously combust in outrage.”

It also spawned a lot of jokes. Like one Twitter user wrote, “Ben Shapiro's wife: talk dirty to me please. Ben Shapiro: I simply will not say the p word.”

Soon afterward, Shapiro tried to offer an explanation for the video. He tweeted, “Listen, guys. I fully explained on the show that it's misogynistic to question whether graphic descriptions of ‘wet-a** p****’ is empowering for women. ‘WAP’ is obviously an incredibly profound statement of women’s empowerment, a la Susan B. Anthony,” adding, “As I also discussed on the show, my only real concern is that the women involved -- who apparently require a ‘bucket and a mop’ -- get the medical care they require. My doctor wife's differential diagnosis: bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection, or trichomonis.”

This led to further mockery. “Ben, it’s clear your experience with authentic sexual arousal in women is...limited. Lesbians know to put towels down before having sex because healthy women can produce so much wetness when they’re aroused. And then there’s female ejaculation, which is a multi-towel experience,” wrote a Twitter user.
