Former US president Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama are drawing criticism for their apparent attempt to stay relevant years after the end of Obama's presidency.

The former POTUS wanted to share the joys of summer with his followers as the season starts winding down, by putting out a list of the songs that he and his wife have been listening to. The former president's tweet, which featured their favorite songs with the words "some new, some old, some fast, some slow" was also retweeted by his wife Michelle, but it did not revoke the kind of response they wanted.

While many of their followers belittled the tweet calling it a desperate attempt by the Obamas to stay relevant, others asked them to focus on more pressing issues than putting out song lists.

One tweet that came in response to the post, read, "Perhaps rather than using your massive platform to tweet your playlist, you can also tweet about the fact that 45% of the black males in your hometown of Chicago do not have jobs. As black men, we should use our platforms to better our community, not just meaningless banter."

Another response came in the form of a GIF of singer Christina Aguilera, one of the judges on 'The Voice', along with the words, "Nobody cares", while another plainly questioned the motives behind the tweet: "Struggling to remain relevant, huh?"

However, a bunch of his supporters were happy to see the former president share his favorite songs, and expressed their interest in adding them all to their playlists. Singer John Legend even responded to the list with, "Thank you, Mr. President!"

While some were quick to appreciate the musicality of Obama, others spoke about how his choice in music reflected how cool he is overall. There were also a noticeable number of tweets that requested the Obamas to return to the White House.

Another group of Twitter users took this as the opportunity to take a jab at the current president, Donald Trump, with most claiming that his playlist would be his own voice on Fox News.
