LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Teen Mom' star Farrah Abraham received flak from netizens as she shared a video of daughter Sophia Laurent getting two piercings including a snakebite piercing on her 14th birthday. On Wednesday, the American reality TV star took to Instagram to post birthday wishes for Sophia. She wrote on Instagram, “14th Birthday! #snakebite & #earlobe piercing party! 6 piercings later #snakebitepiercings you match your snake can you even eat your cake?” She loaded her post with a plethora of emojis.

However, Sophia's piercings made the fans criticize Abraham for having her daughter get the piercings at such a young age. One such comment was made by a Twitter user who condemned Abraham’s parenting by writing, “Bad Parenting 101.” Meanwhile, others applauded her for letting her teen express herself. The 'Teen Mom' star has been at the receiving end of vile and nasty comments when it comes to how she parents her teen.

'1 more reason not to be mother of the year'

One netizen commented, "Y'all are wild thinking this is normal behavior between a mom and a 14 year old....all these piercings on her face are too much at 14." Another Instagram user wrote, "As if you need 1 more reasons not to be mother of the year." One user even raised concerns regarding Sophia's schooling by saying, "I don’t care abt piercings but it’s very concerning she isn’t in school. And don’t even say she’s homeschooled, we’ve all seen Farrah’s grammar. She needs socialized and educated asap."

A fan of Abraham even went to the extent of saying on Instagram that even if she has been her fan for the longest time, she doesn't support her parenting. "Why are we ok with this? I know I’ll cop a lot of hate for this but she’s 14! Yes piercings can close up and heal perfectly, but where is the line drawn? Where is the innocence of being 14 gone? Maybe I’m old school, maybe I’m wrong but I feel like by allowing our children to dictate to us what they do is removing any parental rights we have. I’m all for supporting your children and guiding them accordingly.. but seriously - where is that line?! I’ve been a fan of yours Farah since day one but as a mum I can’t agree with your allowances and justifications with Sophia! I’m sorry," she said. Another user scathingly criticized this as her attempt to be a 'cool mom', "There’s a difference in supporting your children during different phases…then there’s letting your kid do whatever she wants to her young body so you will feel like a cool mom & so she don’t disrespect you the way you disrespected your mom growing up. Pheeeewwwwe."

Twitter too had a field day as criticisms poured in from the fans. One social media user wrote: "Not cool. She's way too young for all this. Plus lip and tongue piercings can damage the teeth. I don't understand..." There was more criticism of Abraham's parenting style as one user sarcastically commented: "Great parenting."

'It's a young hormonal teenager discovering and expressing herself'

Despite the criticism, there were plenty of constructive criticism and supportive replies too. One understanding mother commented on Instagram, "My daughter is the same age and also going through a piercing phase - I prefer piercing then any other modification that can't be reversed! And people should also be mindful that piercing can also be an "outlet" to have pain intentionally inflicted on oneself opposed to the alternative - be kinder people it's a young hormonal teenager discovering and expressing herself . No our place to judge ..." While, another user said, "I'm not the biggest Farah fan, but I will say one thing I can appreciate about her is she allows Sophia the freedom to express herself."

Another Instagram user too wrote kind words and wished Sophia a happy birthday, "I don’t know why so many people hate on Sophia. She’s a child. Better than wearing revealing skimpy clothes and caked on makeup like a lot of girls her age are wearing. Regardless if you like Farrah or not, and while I don’t always understand her parenting choices… I think Sophia seems like a good kid and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. Happy Birthday Sophia."
