LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Awkwafina reportedly revealed how when she was a teenager, she tried to get a fake ID, but the plan went sideways and she got scammed out of $10 instead.

On an episode of 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' on Monday, April 10, the rapper, and actor recalled how she and her friends enjoyed taking the subway to different parts of New York City, especially Times Square, when they were teenagers living in Queens. She said that on one of her excursions, she "was walking around and there was like, you know, you just hear like distant voices in the crowd that’s like, ‘Tattoos, piercings, fake IDs.’ And I turned around and I was like, ‘Fake IDs?'” as per The Hollywood Reporter.

'Believed in the good of people'

Awkwafina admitted being "really young and stupid" at that moment and she accompanied the man to a Roy Rogers restaurant to get a fake ID. She said, "We went upstairs and he pointed to a table. And he was like, ‘You see that guy?' He was in a hat with what looked like a trench coat. And he was like, ‘That’s my associate.'” She said the man asked for any money she had to prove that she was a teenager and "not a CIA agent," yet nothing at the time sounded strange to her.

Awkwafina said that after handing the stranger the $10 she had on her, she then waited for 45 minutes for the man to return. She said, "I get up and kind of go over to his associate, and I'm like, 'Excuse me sir, your partner'...I just wanna make sure he’s OK and that he didn’t hit any road bumps," when she realized that the ma would not return. It turned out that the "associate" had no knowledge of either the man or what she was taking about. Kelly Clarkson joked that the actor "believed in the good of people", which was charming, because she would not have as a teenager.
