With 2020 in tow, fans couldn't be more ecstatic that Awkwafina, born Nora Lum, won for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy — 'The Farewell'. Awkwafina made history being the first Asian woman to win a Golden Globe for lead actress in a comedy.

Twitter applauded the win, "Awkwafina winning makes 2020 worth it already! #GoldenGlobes" tweeted a fan.

The role that got her the win? Her debut film is a 2019 American comedy-drama directed by Lulu Wang. It's the story where a family learns their grandmother has little time left to live and decides to have a family gathering before her death. The film received a lot of praise for the screenplay as well as the direction. The performances of Awkwafina and her castmate Zhao were also highly appreciated.

Fans praised her performance, "Awkwafina is so fucking good in THE FAREWELL. such a rich, resonant, low-key difficult performance. #GoldenGlobes" tweeted a supporter. Many deemed the win well deserved and fans have been pouring their love. "Awkwafina is one of my oldest and best NY comedy friends, and watching her absolutely dominate makes me so fucking proud. We've come a long way (but she's come farther ha)," tweeted Akilah Hughes.

Support for the cultural win has also taken Twitter by storm. "Fellow asian american hero scarjo announcing awkwafina as the #goldenglobes winner for best actress in a motion picture musical or comedy is the cultural moment weve always needed" said a fan.

With her acclaimed sense of humor, Awkwafina said, "I would like to dedicate this to my dad Wally. I told you I would get a job, dad. To my grandma, my best friend, the woman who raised me. And to my mother, Tia, who I always hoped was watching from somewhere above," when accepting her award. She also managed to crack a smile out of Adam Driver, and fans noticed, "awkwafina made adam driver laugh...her power."
