IZHESVK, RUSSIA: A neo-nazi gunman has reportedly killed at least 13 people -- including seven children -- and injured about 21 after opening fire on students at a school in the city on Mnday.

The gunman was reportedly wearing a black t-shirt and balaclava and was armed with two flare guns that had been converted to fire live ammunition. There was a huge emergency presence Monday, September 26, at School Number 88 in Izhevsk in the western Russian region of Udmurt. Several students were reported to be among the victims of the shooting, including three children aged 10, 11, and 15. Meanwhile, at least two teachers and two security guards were killed.

The Sun reported how one terrified student posted on social media from inside a classroom as the gunman stormed through the school corridors. "We are in biology class," she wrote. "Moved from class to lab. The whole class is sitting and crying. They don't tell us anything. Very scary." One video showed children huddled in a classroom while crouched on the floor.

Some of the pupils reportedly injured themselves while trying to escape by jumping out of upstairs windows.

That said, the gunman is believed to have killed himself following the bloody rampage. "Currently, the police found the body of the man who opened fire," the newspaper quoted regional authorities as saying. "According to reports, he committed suicide."

No official motive has been established for the shooting at the time of publication. Russia’s Investigative Committee, which handles major crimes, shared a picture of the shooter, showing him wearing a "black t-shirt with Nazi symbols" and black balaclava while lying motionless in a classroom.

Meanwhile, local media also shared images of the suspect wearing a t-shirt celebrating a Russian neo-nazi activist, with swastika tattoos visible on his arms. Some other pictures circulating on the internet showed one of the converted pistols allegedly used by the killer, alongside more than a dozen cartridges of bullets, each of which had the world "hate" written on it in Russian.

The gunman is said to have locked himself in an office on the fourth floor of the school building before turning the gun on himself. A criminal investigation is underway.

The school, located near the center of Izhevsk, reportedly educated children between grades 1 and 11, and had 982 pupils and 80 teachers. The building has been evacuated and the premises has been fenced off. Udmurt's regional governor Alexander Brechalov declared three days of mourning for the deceased and injured. It's worth noting that Russia has seen a number of school shootings in recent years. In May last year, a teen gunman shot and killed seven children and two adults in the city of Kazan. In April this year, a man entered a kindergarten in the central Ulyanovsk region and killed two children and a teacher before killing himself, Reuters reported.
