Taylor Swift has been through a storm only because she wanted to re-record her music and own her masters instead of her former boss Scooter Braun and looks like renowned emcee Ashanti is now taking the same route. The New York rapper recently sat for an interview where she dropped hints about re-recording her classic albums and owning her masters. Her new comments irked her former rumored partner and record label boss Irv Gotti.

The 41-year-old emcee sat on ‘The Angie Martinez Show’ and explained the business side of ownership. Irv Gotti soon got the news as he posted a comment on one of the social media posts shared by Angie Martinez clearing the air that he very much owned the masters and that he also owned a very good portion of publishing. Social media users soon thronged to Twitter as they extended their support to the ‘Concrete Rose’ hitmaker while also slamming Gotti over his sly remarks. For the unversed, Ashanti and Irv Gotti were rumored to be dating after the latter divorced his wife Debbie Lorenzo got separated. The latter apparently had a sexual relationship with Ashanti after his marriage fell apart.

What is Ashanti and Irv Gotti beef all about?

Whilst keeping her point across the table, Ashanti told Angie Martinez about re-doing her albums instead of dropping new music. “The thinking behind that is showing the business side of ownership and how important it is to own and then once I re-record the first album.” Angie then soon interrupted saying, “You own it” to which Ashanti said, “exactly” further explaining, “So everything purchased, like when that goes, everything purchased from that moment I own.” Angie then jokingly asserted, “You bout to get a big bag” as the rapper laughs into the mic.

This clearly did not go down well with Irv Gotti as he went on a rant while posting a comment and also tagging Angie in it. He started, “@angiemartinez just for super clarity, I own all those great Ashanti Albums Angie. I own the masters and I produced all those great Ashanti Albums.” He continued, “So I also own a good portion of the Publishing. What she is trying to do is re-record all those great records and put them out on her label. She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to f**k me out of my Masters. And make people decide which album to listen too or stream.” Gotti added, “Hoping her loyal fans will choose her version. But hey, I stand on the magic that was created. And I wanna see her duplicate that magic. It's f**ked up really. But such is life." Ashanti has six solo albums to her name where a self-titled project along with records such as ‘Chapter II’, ‘Ashanti’s Christmas’, and ‘The Declaration’ being considered as some of her top studio efforts.

‘Sick how these producers and label executives can own your voice’

Social media users did not hesitate at all to brutally slam Irv Gotti over his latest rant. “F**k u Irv we're rocking with Ashanti”, said one fan as another chimed-in, “If I understand correctly, there’s recording masters (for the individual recording at a set point in time). Ashanti as the songwriter has publishing rights. By re-recording she’s not STEALING Irv’s masters, but the presence of another LP potentially diminishes value.” Another stated, “Irv Gotti publicly saying Ashanti is trying to “finesse” HIM out of HIS masters is the most industry shit I’ve heard all month.”

The next one tweeted, “Irv Gotti has a lot of audacity for that comment what the f**k. I know every grimey industry (n-word) be wanting to say the same s**t. Why would we feel sorry for YOU bc Ashanti is re-recording her albums? You eating good and been eating.” One asserted, “I stand with Ashanti. F**k Irv” as another mentioned, “Irv Gotti is right; I am absolutely going to stream Ashanti’s re-recorded albums.” Meanwhile, one posted, “I wouldn’t care if Ashanti had a 2yr old on the piano for her new re-records. I’m still choosing that version. Irv got his share and should feel guilty for his part in holding her back (getting caught) with his illegal stuff.” And, another concluded, “It’s sick how these producers and label executives can own your voice on a song. If they weren’t shady people, people like Irv Gotti wouldn’t have this issue. Sing away Ashanti.”
