LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Antonio Banderas talked about how having a heart attack six years ago has been a 'turning point' in his life in a new interview on Monday, January 23. The 62-year-old actor credited his girlfriend, Nicole Kimpel, for saving his life.
Back in 2017, Banderas complained of having chest pains while he was exercising and was rushed to the hospital. It was later discovered that he had a heart attack. Banderas believes that having a heart attack made him "recognize what was important in his life." "Well, I had a heart attack six years ago. It probably was one of the best things that happened in my life. It was like putting glasses on and seeing what was important. Since my heart attack, I’m looking only for the pleasure of acting. That’s it. I don’t care about anything else. For me, life starts when somebody says, 'Action!' – or when the curtain comes up," the actor told Radio Times, as reported by Mirror UK.

Previously, in an interview on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', the 62-year-old actor credited his girlfriend, Kimpel, for saving his life by giving him an extra strength aspirin she had bought just a day before the scare. Banderas said, "She bought this aspirin, which is the only thing that she found and she found the maximum one, I think it was five milligrams." "The next morning, when I started having the symptoms and I clearly knew what was going on, she put one of those aspirins inside of my tongue and that saved my life. So I had a second chance, and some stuff changed in my life, since then."
In the new interview, Banderas talked about his new film 'Puss In Boots: The Last Wish' and discussed its connection to death and mortality. He explained why he was able to relate to the motion movie. "I had a heart attack six years ago. It probably was one of the best things that happened in my life. It was like putting glasses on and seeing what was important," he said.

Nicole Kimpel is a 40-year-old investment consultant. She has a twin sister and was born on July 28, 1981. She has German-Dutch heritage with her mother being Dutch and father a German. According to Hola!, she is multilingual and can speak five languages French, English, and Spanish, besides her native languages, German and Dutch. Before falling in love with Banderas, she used to work as an investment banker for Merrill Lynch. Banderas and Kimpel met in 2014 at the Cannes Film Festival.
