Angelina Jolie, who celebrated her 45th birthday on June 4, once revealed in a candid interview that she cried in the shower after her marriage with Brad Pitt broke down in 2016.

In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2017, the actress opened up about how she managed to keep her heartbreak a secret from her six kids after she separated and ultimately divorce her husband. She said that finding solitude during the day was difficult and she knew she could not bring herself to hurt her children by openly displaying her vulnerable state so she let out her emotions while taking a shower.

"I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them," the actress who shares Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, Knox, 11, and Vivienne, 11, with Pitt, revealed. "They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is."

Jolie, who tied the knot for the third time in her life with Pitt in September 2014, having survived two failed marriages to Johnny Lee Miller (1996-1999) and Billy Bob Thornton (2000-2003) in the past, said that Pitt's celebrity lifestyle was to blame for the demise of their marriage. She went on to say that at the time “things got bad" before she corrected herself and thought of the more appropriate word. "I didn’t want to use that word. Things became ‘difficult,'" she said.

The actress gave full credit to her children who did not let the impact of their parents' separation affect them negatively. She said that they had been "very brave" during the ordeal. "In times they needed to be. We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing... They’re not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some... from life, from things in life," she said. “It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air."

She made it clear that although she and Pitt were no longer together, they were both working toward a common goal — of successfully co-parenting and keeping their family together. "We care for each other and care about our family, and we are both working towards the same goal," she added.

Although there have been reports of Jolie and Pitt fighting a messy custody battle for their children in the recent past, it seems the Covid-19 lockdown is doing some good for the ex-power couple, as they seem to have become more cordial toward each other as they co-parent their kids. “Things between Brad and Angelina are better than they have been. They’re more cordial — they’re aiming toward resolutions that work for each of them,” an insider told Us Weekly in May.

A second source said that the A-listers have recently come to an agreement as Pitt sees the children every few days. The insider mentioned that though Pitt is not in contact with his elder children, Maddox and Pax, he still gets updates about them from the actress. The source added that to make matters even better, Jolie is specifically “impressed with Brad’s continued sobriety”.
