What happens when a celebrated star has a public breakdown? You might be familiar with that scenario but in Drew Barrymore's upcoming film 'The Stand In', she is about to show you what follows after the press has mocked and ridiculed the star. As the title suggests, a stand-in happily takes over an actress' career and identity, inevitably leading to chaos. Here's everything you need to know about the comedy movie.

'The Stand In' is set to premiere on VoD and in theaters on December 11, 2020.

Plot

According to the official synopsis of the movie, "Double the Drew Barrymore, double the fun in this outrageous comedy about trading places. Disillusioned by her acting career and unable to escape the stressful demands of fame, Candy Black's life spirals out of control. When a judge orders her to serve a year in rehab, Candy hires her on set stand-in, Paula, to go in her place. Out early for good behavior and hungry for fame, the seemingly quiet and adoring Paula flips the script on Candy, stealing the actress’s identity, career and boyfriend!"

Barrymore requires little introduction. The recipient of numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a BAFTA nomination, is perhaps best known for her work in '50 First Dates', 'Charlie's Angels' franchise, 'Boy on the Side' and 'Mad Love' and 'Blended'. 

'The Stand In' boasts of a massive ensemble cast. The movie also stars other comedy favorites such as ' Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' star Ellie Kemper, 'Two and a Half Men' alumnus Holland Taylor, TJ Miller, Andrew Rannells, Michael Zegen, Lena Dunham, Charlie Barnett and Michelle Buteau. 

Creators 

The Drew Barrymore-starrer is directed by Jamie Babbit, who is known for directing the films 'But I'm a Cheerleader', 'The Quiet' and 'Itty Bitty Titty Committee'. On television, she is known for her work on 'Russian Doll', 'Gilmore Girls', 'Malcolm in the Middle', 'United States of Tara', 'The L Word', 'Silicon Valley', and 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'. The movie is written by Sam Bain, best known for 'Peep Show' and his partnership with 'Succession' creator Jesse Armstrong.
