'American Idol' Top 5: Fritz Hager's song fails to impress, fans say 'show us some energy'

After surviving the last week's elimination despite performing from his hotel room due to Covid 19, Fritz Hager managed to bag a spot on the coveted Top 5 list. After making a speedy recovery, the 22-year-old was more than ready to be mentored by guest mentor and 'American Idol' alum Carrie Underwood and also perform live before the audience and the judges. 

Fritz picked NEEDTOBREATHE and Carrie Underwood's song 'I Wanna Remember' for his performance. Luckily, he got some pro tips from Carrie on how to go about performing the song. Though the judges- Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, couldn't stop raving about his stage presence and flawless vocals after watching his performance, fans sadly didn't share the same feeling. Many fans felt that Fritz lacked energy and didn't enjoy his Top 5 performance much.

Fans also wondered how Fritz made it this far in the singing competition, while other talented performers were shown the door. A fan shared, "Yall better not vote Fritz. He should have been out a while ago #americanidol." "How is Fritz in the semi-finals? He is just okay. #AmericanIdol," observed a fan. "I don’t know how Fritz has made it… #AmericanIdol," echoed a fan.

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
