ABC's 'American Idol' is the perfect platform for aspiring singers to get their foot in the music industry. Considering the show's massive success in launching the career of the previous winners like Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, etc, it comes as no surprise that many people dream of competing on the hit singing competition show. Fritz Hager is no different.

The 21-year-old grew up watching 'American Idol' and counts the show's earlier winner Phillip Phillips as one of his idols and inspiration, so it was a pretty big deal for Fritz to stand on the same stage that his idol stood on and perform before the judges- Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. Who is Fritz Hager?

Fritz is a 21-year-old security guard from Tyler, Texas. In his introduction segment, Fritz explains that his job isn't 'glamorous' as he just sits in a dark room and monitors the security cameras footage. But the youngster is pretty clear about not wanting to spend the rest of his life stuck in the closed dark room watching security camera footage, he dreams of being out there and performing his music to the crowds. He was always interested in music, he reveals that his parents have videos of him from when he was 2 or 3 years old singing songs.

In an interview with Tyler Morning Telegraph, Frtiz recounted feeling nervous ahead of auditioning for the show. "Just getting the opportunity is a dream come true really because I’ve been a fan of the show for so long. I’m going into it super nervous because I know it’s my one shot, so I really want to make the most of it." He recently released two singles.

Fritz walked onto the stage nervously and began performing a Lewis Capaldi song. He started off really slow, but eventually got into the groove and managed to display his vocal prowess towards the end of his performance. Katy pointed out that while he did have immense potential, he still needed to learn to hone his skills. She advised him to get the audience interested right from the first note instead of steadily building up to it. She however felt that Fritz could be one of those people who would be able to unlock his skills in the presence of a group, so she gave him her yes. Luke, on the other hand, wasn't convinced by Fritz's performance and said no. Lionel agreed with Katy and gave him a yes, which meant that Luke bagged the golden ticket and was going to Hollywood.

Fans were pleased with the judges' decision and felt that Fritz should work on the feedback he received to go further in the competition. A fan commented on the show's YouTube clip of Fritz's performance with, "I am definitely excited to see where he goes. the song wasn't his strongest choice but with some work and confidence he could definitely shock everyone. very excited, nonetheless." Another fan wrote, "I agree with Katy on this one. He has a lot of potential. He just needs to figure out how to engage his audience right away.." "The judges should have emphasized his need for vocal confidence . Guitar was great, but if he can gain a strong self confidence in his voice, he could be a force. I like him," added a fan.

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday at 8/7c on ABC.
