Johnny Depp filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, seeking $50 million for damages caused in connection with a domestic abuse column she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018. Katherine James, Heard's personal assistant from 2012 to 2015, testified for the aforementioned case and appeared 'virtually' in court.

James stated that she began working for Heard part-time before becoming her full-time PA. She described her responsibilities while working with Heard as "too many to mention." She claimed in court that during their time together, Heard "spit" in her face and sent her "abusive texts."

"Everything you could possibly do to run someone's life," James told the court when asked to explain them about her responsibilities. She went on to mention chores including grocery shopping, dealing with travel, decorating, and liaising with crew members on site.

James responded, "Very poorly," when asked about her income and whether she got paid. When she asked Heard for a raise, she said, "[She] leapt up out of her chair and put her face about four inches from my face, spitting in my face, saying how dare I ask for that salary."

James went on to add that Heard was extremely abusive to her when she worked for her, claiming that she screamed at her "multiple times" over the phone. According to James, Heard allegedly sent "barrages of abusive text messages" that continued "day and night." The texts would frequently be "incoherent" and "not really making sense," James added.

James told the court that Amber Heard was verbally abusive to her sister, Wendy Heard, as well, and that their relationship was like "kick the dog." James said that Amber Heard's plan to terminate the PA job left her with a "bit of a feeling of being blindsided" and "bit of shock."

James described her responsibilities as picking up two copies of any magazine that showcased Heard and storing them in a garage since Heard didn't want Depp to see them. Heard became "very angry" and "absolutely ballistic" when the duplicates were not placed in the garage, according to James. When pressed for more information, James stated that Heard was "yelling, abuse" but could not recall what she said, adding that Heard was in a "blind rage" at the time.
