Amber Heard breaks down in court as footage of drunk Johnny Depp 'assaulting cabinets' is shown
On Thursday, April 21, Johnny Depp faced cross-examination after a video showing him smashing up his kitchen in 2013 was shown in court, which he alleges was "illegally filmed" by Amber Heard. "I did assault a couple of cabinets, but I did not touch Ms Heard," Depp declared. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million after she described herself in a 2018 op-ed as a "public figure representing domestic abuse." She is suing him for $100 million in retaliation.
In the footage, Depp is seen bashing glass cabinets in his home's bar area. Heard mentioned that "nothing occurred this morning," and "I just woke up, and you were so kind and nice. We were not even fighting this morning, all I did was say sorry." Depp can be heard saying, "Did something happen to you this morning? I don't think so. You wanna see crazy? I'll give you crazy." After that, the actor pours himself a huge glass of wine. "Here's your crazy." Depp then learns he's being surreptitiously taped and pretends to destroy the gadget.

"You got this going? You sic that s**t on me, motherf****r?" Depp screams. Off-camera, there are more loud noises. Heard seemed to be laughing. When faced with the footage of himself in court, Depp indicated it was all a hoax. "Clearly, I was having a bad time. I don't know what it was with regard to completely," Depp stated, mentioning how Heard hid the recording tape. Depp stated that the most amusing aspect of the whole event was that Heard appeared to be smiling and laughing towards the end of the video.
Ben Rottenborn, Heard's attorney, inquired whether Depp poured himself a "mega" glass of wine in the video, pointing out the actor's drug and alcohol usage is a key defense issue. "A mega pint?" Depp asked. "I poured myself a large glass of wine, I thought it necessary."
Heard shivered throughout the almost two-minute footage when it was presented in court. For the first time in seven days of witness evidence, the actress got visibly tearful.
"One does stray from complete control over their emotions at times, and that is very normal primal thing to do," Depp told Rottenborn. Depp said that he "did not try to intimidate Ms Heard."If she was intimidated, why was she filming?" Depp enquired. "If she was scared to death, why didn't she leave?"
Depp hinted at a meeting between himself and Heard in July 2016, two months after she filed for divorce and a temporary restraining order in an interview earlier this week. They met in a hotel in San Francisco, ostensibly at her request, and the actor appeared to threaten to stab himself with a knife. The court has been adjourned for the remainder of the week. On Monday, 25 April, Depp's cross-examination will resume.
