Alec Baldwin sued by Halyna Hutchins' devastated parents seeking 'accountability' in 'Rust' shooting
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Alec Baldwin is being sued by the parents and sister of Halyna Hutchins. They claim that if the cinematographer were still alive, she would have moved them to the US with her when the war in Ukraine began.
Olga, Hutchins' mother, cares for those wounded in the war, while her sister Svetlana struggles to raise her two young children at home while her husband fights at the front. Gloria Allred, the Hutchins family's attorney, announced at a press conference Thursday, February 9, that the Baldwin family is suing for damages in Los Angeles, DailyMail reports. The family had not yet filed a visa application or immigration petition, but their attorney explained that Hutchins "would not have allowed" them to remain in Ukraine if she were still alive. Allred stated, "She would have brought them to the US when it was possible," according to DailyMail. Allred claimed that Baldwin never contacted the family to apologize for Hutchins' death on the set of the film 'Rust.'

'We want accountability and justice'
Allred stated, "We are now representing others in the family - mom, dad and sister. There has been no settlement for them, there has been no outreach to them by Mr. Baldwin to even say he was sorry. We want accountability and justice for them," as reported by DailyMail.
Svetlana, Hutchins' sister, stated in a pre-recorded statement, "To lose my sister was a horrible experience and one of the biggest losses of my life. Even more devastating is to see the utter suffering of our parents and how their health has sharply declined," as reported by DailyMail.
Sveltlana added, "It is for this reason that I'd like those who are at fault for somebody to carry that responsibility not just someone - but that very someone who is truly responsible. To let this go and let this be unpunished is unallowable."
What is Alec Baldwin's legal situation right now?
Baldwin has always maintained his innocence, claiming that her death, while unfortunate, was not criminal. The family sued him in Los Angeles for assault and loss of companionship, seeking damages for the damage to their relationship.
Previously, Baldwin and Matthew Hutchins, Hutchins' widower, had agreed to a wrongful death settlement that made Baldwin the executive producer of the film when it went back into production. The new lawsuit was filed in response to search warrants and probable cause affidavits against Baldwin disseminated by the New Mexico Attorney General's Office.
The search warrants and affidavits allege that Baldwin failed to follow instructions during his firearms training and failed to examine the weapon before firing it at Hutchins. Baldwin, however, has sworn to deny the allegations. He is still in New York City and will appear remotely for his initial court appearance.
