SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Halyna Hucthin's husband and parents have announced their move to file a new lawsuit against Alec Baldwin. The 'Rust' cinematographer was shot dead by the disgraced actor on the film set in 2021. In a press release, renowned lawyer Gloria Allred revealed that she will be representing the family of Hutchins.

In a separate lawsuit, Baldwin, who is also the producer of the film 'Rust,' already settled with the Hutchins family in October 2021. The terms of the civil lawsuit settlement were not revealed to the public. The grounds on which the new suit is set to be filed also remain unclear and more details are expected to be released in a press conference to be held by Allred on Thursday afternoon, February 9, as per the New York Post report. The announcement of the new suit comes after Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in January 2023 for the on-set shooting of the mom of one. The actor could face up to five years in jail if convicted.

Wrongful death suit against Baldwin

In February 2022, the Hutchins family filed a wrongful death suit against the 64-year-old actor claiming that he “recklessly shot and killed” Halyna. In October 2022, the cinematographer's widower, Matthew Hutchins, was apparently ready to settle and move on at the time. In a statement, he said, “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident,” the New York Post reported. According to the news outlet, the film would resume its filming and as an executive producer, Matthew Hutchins will be on board.

Baldwin refuses to accept responsibility

Baldwin has refused to accept responsibility for the fatal shooting of Hutchins and is set to fight the manslaughter charges. The denial to accept any culpability for killing the cinematographer was told by his lawyer on January 18, who said, "we will win" against the charges.

Responding to the Santa Fe district attorney charging Baldwin with two counts of involuntary manslaughter charges, the actor's lawyer Luke Nikas expressed his disapproval and stated, “This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice".

"Mr Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds,” his mouthpiece continued. The disgraced actor shot the crew member using a prop gun aimed at Hutchin but the gun was loaded with a real bullet.
