LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Alec Baldwin, who has every reason to be happy after the charges of involuntary manslaughter on the sets of his upcoming western film ‘Rust’ have been dropped, has hired the acclaimed documentary maker Rory Kennedy. Rory also happens to be the youngest child of the former Attorney General of the USA and his wife, Ethel. She is also the sister of presidential candidate Bobby Jr.

Rory Kennedy, 54, has been tasked with filming Baldwin’s every move during the filming of the ill-fated movie ‘Rust’ on the new film set arranged in Livingston, Montana. Earlier, the filming was abruptly stopped in October 2021 after the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, by the misfiring of a prop gun. Baldwin, who was holding the gun during the unfortunate incident, was charged with two involuntary manslaughter charges. Armorer Hannah Gutteriez-Reed was also charged in the case.

The director was there inside the courthouse when the two charges of manslaughter were dropped, Daily Mail noted. On Wednesday, April 19, Rory and her all-female crew were seen filming Baldwin in New York, bidding adieu to his wife Hilaria and their seven children ahead of his 35-day-long shooting schedule in Montana.

Who is Rory Kennedy?

Hailing from one of the greatest political families in the USA, Rory is the daughter of the 1968 US presidential candidate, former United States Attorney General, and US Senator Robert ‘Bobby’ F Kennedy and his wife Ethel. She was born six months after her illustrious father's assassination prior to the election. Rory is an acclaimed documentary maker on various social issues, including addiction, nuclear radiation, the treatment of prisoners of war, and the politics of the Mexican border fence.

Rory directed and co-produced the Emmy Award-nominated series ‘Pandemic: Facing AIDS’ in 2003, ‘A Boy's Life’ in 2004, which later broadcasted on HBO, another HBO documentary, ‘Indian Point: Imagining the Unimaginable’ in 2004, ‘Homestead Strike’ in 2006 for The History Channel. She has also directed documentaries like ‘Ghosts of Abu Ghraib’, ‘Ethel’, ‘Last Days in Vietnam’ and ‘Downfall: The Case Against Boeing’. She was nominated for the Oscars for the 2014 production of ‘Last Days in Vietnam’.

Recent update on 'Rust' case

This week saw a new development in the case as New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis issued a statement that said "over the last few days... new facts were revealed," thus demanding further investigation, reports BBC News. They further added, "This decision does not absolve Mr Baldwin of criminal culpability and charges may be refiled," before adding, "Our follow-up investigation will remain active and ongoing."

Baldwin’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, told BBC News that, "We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident.” The new development came just two weeks before a scheduled court hearing that was due on May 3.

Talking about the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, her lawyer said that they "fully expect at the end of this process that Hannah will also be exonerated."
