'Going for Pop-Pop': Al Roker's expression says it all as daughter Courtney announces pregnancy
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Al Roker took to social media on Tuesday, March 14, to express his joy after his daughter, Courtney, shared news of her pregnancy. "Here we go!!! So very very happy!!!!! You guys," Al wrote in the comments section of Courtney's Instagram post announcing the pregnancy. The 'Today' show host also revealed his preferred grandfather nickname, writing, "Going for Pop-Pop."
Courtney and her husband, Wesley Laga, shared adorable photos of themselves along with ultrasound images, set to a remix of Mariah Carey's hit song, 'Always Be My Baby.' "A new adventure is about to begin," Courtney wrote in the caption of the post, which garnered nearly 27,000 likes from her followers. In an interview with Today, Courtney shared more details about her pregnancy, saying, "We are extremely excited to welcome a new member into our family and start this next chapter in our lives. We feel truly blessed and excited for our little miracle."

Battle with illness
Roker recently made a triumphant return to the 'Today' show after being absent due to health issues. In November 2022, he was hospitalized while being treated for blood clots in his lungs, and he was forced to take a few days off from the show. In January, he returned to the show and shared that he had undergone multiple surgeries, including colon surgery, gallbladder removal surgery, and surgery for internal bleeding.
"I went in for one operation and got four free," Roker joked while discussing his surgeries on the show. He also explained that he had internal bleeding, and doctors were initially unsure of its source. "We were extraordinarily concerned about Al. He had a life-threatening experience," said Dr Felice H Schnoll-Sussman, who treated him at New York Presbyterian.
Roker spent four weeks in total at the hospital and went home on December 8. Four days later, he made his virtual return to the Today show, which was broadcasted from his home in New York. Now, he is finally back in the studio after two months away, and his co-workers couldn't be more excited. "We're so happy to have you back, Al," said one of his colleagues, as he was met with a series of warm embraces, emotional tears and a big applause from his co-workers. His career with NBC began in 1978, and he became the regular weekday weatherman on 'Today' in January 1996.
