PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: Season 18 of 'America's Got Talent' was supposed to begin on a high note, but it appears to have begun on a flying note instead. As Trex Flips took the stage to make the judges eat their own words, viewers of the network didn't look much thrilled.

This act kicked off the new season and delivered one of the things that this program has done so well over the years. It allowed you to walk into the episode with a very precise anticipation of what would happen, just to have that flipped (literally) by the end. We've all seen viral videos of individuals competing in this dinosaur costume. The majority of the time, though, we notice them by seeing the person in the costume fall on their face. It's a ridiculous outfit, but there was a pretty entertaining audition here! The flips and dance routines were impressive, especially considering the difficulty of doing them in this suit. Is the outfit a ploy? Absolutely. This behavior would almost certainly not garner the same level of attention if it were not performed by a dinosaur. However, with a program like this, you have to do all you can to stand out and it works. The challenge will be the next stage of the competition, in which you must demonstrate that this is more than a one-episode novelty aimed to get people interested at the start of the season.

'Never judge a book before reading it'

During the episode, judge Sofia Vergara says she wants to say no as soon as she sees a man dressed as a gigantic dinosaur. Patrick works as a project manager for an HVAC firm. Gymnastic tricks comprise his performance, but in a gigantic dinosaur costume. It's ridiculous but it's a hit with the audience.

In an unexpected change of events, the dinosaur begins his performance, which turns out to be a breakdancing routine. All four judges give the dinosaur a standing ovation, proving Sofia's quick decision was incorrect.

"I am so, so happy that I did not say no to you," Sofia adds, before mixing up a common saying. "That tells you that we should never, ever, ever judge a book before reading it." Simon Cowell dubbed it the "best-dancing dinosaur" ever seen on 'AGT'. Howie Mandell wanted to be the first to say yes to him. Simon paused for a time before the audience began chanting. Patrick eventually leaves with four yeses.

'Clearly a wasteful season'

Soon after the act ended, viewers took to Twitter to call out the show as one wrote, "When something like this starts the show and the judges put it through, it makes me want to turn the channel! Really judges! Let’s find quality acts!" Another person chimed in, "Thanks AGT for saving me so much time this summer- clearly a wasteful season when a crap act like this gets 4 yes votes. I remember when judges took this seriously."

One user asked, "What was that?" Another wrote, "That was stupid. I can't believe they put him through. Hope this is not a sign of how this season is going to be."

On the official YouTube page of 'AGT', one wrote, "What's sad Is these acts think that they need some kind of gimmick now to stand out like dressing up in a dinosaur suit but they forget that if they have the talent and that they're good at what they're doing It doesn't matter their talent will be enough to get them through."

Another person said, "My hope for next time is that he loose the stupid suit and just dance." One person commented, "I thought he was going to tell jokes." Another added, "Wat too over hyped. Its mediocre flips. Not even close to top talent."

'America's Got Talent' Season 18 airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on NBC.
