Spanish actress Isabel Torres, known for playing the role of Cristina Ortiz in the TV series ‘Veneno’, has died. She was 52 and was battling lung cancer for two years. Torres’ death was confirmed by her family in an Instagram post.
The social media post shared in Spanish and translated into English read, “Today, February 11, 2022, we say goodbye to Isabel. Although her family and friends feel her loss deeply, we know that wherever she goes, she will have fun as only she knows how. Thank you for all the messages of affection and concern. She has left feeling very loved and supported.”

According to reports, Torres – a supporter of LGBTQ+ – was diagnosed with the disease in 2019 when she was shooting for ‘Veneno’. Later she spoke with Spanish media and said, “My life has not been easy. Without realizing it, I have made a battle of my life. A battle that I don't know if it will end soon or a little later. What I am clear about is that I am not going to stop fighting until the last moment.”
As news of her death spread, tributes and condolences started poured in on the internet. ‘Veneno’ director Javier Ambrossi wrote on Instagram, “I can only thank you, Isabel. I still see you in every memory. In every complicit look in filming, in every dance when we could, in every rehearsal. You are effort, talent, courage, beauty, power. I take you to inside forever. Rest, my love.”
Spanish singer David Moreno said, “Thank you so much Elizabeth. For the laughs, the songs and your art. Miss you. Good trip. You will always be light.” A user on Twitter said, “So sad to hear about the death of Veneno star Isabel Torres. Rest in peace, you beautiful & radiant soul.” A tweet in her honor read: “Before becoming an actress, Isabel Torres was already considered an icon of the LGBT+ movement in Spain. In 1996, she was the first trans woman to achieve recognition of her gender identity in the national identity document (DNI) in the country.”
