Aaron Carter's team tried to place him in rehab before death but 'outside influences made it a challenge'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Aaron Carter's team has responded after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner revealed that the late singer died in November 2022 as a result of accidental drowning.
Aaron's mother, Jane Carter, has previously opened up about his mental health issues. Carter inhaled difluoroethane (the propellant frequently used in cans of compressed air home cleaners) and drank prescription alprazolam (generic Xanax) before his death, according to the report. "We are glad this case is finally closed so that we can have a celebration of life and send him off to rest," Aaron's team said in an April 19 statement to E! News.

The tragic end of a rising star
“Our team actively tried to implement a plan to rehabilitate a recovery to health, however, due to outside influences and triggering dysfunctional relationships, these circumstances made it a challenge,” the statement continued. The note added that Aaron's team does not “believe the story ends here.” It’s no secret that Aaron struggled with the relationships in his life, with his brother, Nick Carter, and substance abuse.
Several years before his death, the ‘I Want Candy’ hitmaker had a public spat with his brother, Nick, 43, when he accused Aaron of threatening to kill his pregnant wife, Lauren. He even secured a restraining order against his younger brother in September 2019, according to the BBC. "After careful consideration, my sister Angel and I regret that we were required to seek a restraining order against our brother Aaron," the Backstreet Boys member remarked at the time.
“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confessions that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family,” he continued. “We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else."
‘I wanted to be with you forever’
However, following his untimely death, an insider revealed exclusively to HollywoodLife that Aaron and Nick had reconciled. “[Aaron] was on the path to making amends with so many people in his life, and he had made amends and made peace with Nick,” they wrote. “Aaron was happy about this because he loved his brother. He looked up to Nick in so many ways. They were trying to make everything good again.”
Aaron also had an on-again, off-again relationship with his fiancee, who was also the mother of his only child, Prince. Melanie Martin, Aaron's fiancee, has kept his memory alive by often uploading flashback images and videos of the former child star.
On March 25, she posted an Instagram reel of them together with a statement expressing her loss. “Missing you and trying to heal every day,” she wrote. “I wanted to be with you forever. A part of me will never have closure but i'll have the memories forever.”
