It's a tough time and we need all the cheer and love that we can get. And hey, that's what streaming platforms are for. Netflix and Amazon Prime have been adding a slew of engaging films to keep us occupied during these dark times of pandemic and other global crises. Anime fans, and non-Anime too, you have a lot to look forward to this June. For starters, 'A Whisker Away' will release next week and it promises to be a heartwarming film, which might bring that much-needed cheer in these gloomy times of lockdown. Its quirky and unusual tale is sure to bring a smile to your face during these difficult times. 

Release date

'A Whisker Away' will release on Netflix on June 18, 2020. It had been previously scheduled for a theatrical release in Japan, but due to the pandemic, it was delayed, and then canceled. Netflix then picked up the film to release it on its streaming service globally.

Plot details

The synopsis for the anime feature reads, "Junior-highschool student Miyo Sasaki is in love with her fellow classmate Kento Hinode, but he never appears to take any notice of her. After discovering a magic mask that can transform her into the cat named Taro, she finally grabs the attention of Hinode. The more Miyo transforms into Taro, the more time she gets to spend with Hinode, but she risks never being able to turn back into a human if the boundaries between being a human and a feline are lost."

Voice Cast

The voice cast for the film includes Mirai Shida ('Arrietty', 'The Wind Rises' and 'Nobody to Watch Over Me') as Miyo Sasaki, Natsuki Hanae ('Starmyu', 'Aldnoah.Zero',  'Dragon Ball: Ressurection of F') as Keno Hinode and Kouichi Yamadera as the Cat ('Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, 'Vampire Hunter', Bloodlust, Ghost in the Shell').

Creators

The anime feature has bee co-directed by Junichi Sato, Tomotaka Shibayama and written by Mari Okada. It is the second feature-length film produced by Studio Colorido.
